Ridley's Believe It Or Not--This Day In History January 19, 2014

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--January 19, 2014:  On this eve of Martin Lunther King, Jr. Day, some holidays to celebrate:
             1.
Birthday of Edgar Allan Poe--  started by the mysterious Poe Toaster in the 30's by visits to Poe's gravesite in Baltimore with no appearances since 2009 leading to speculation that the 75 year old tradition had ended, but celebrated by poets and avians of all kinds, especially ravens and the heirs of Vincent Price, collecting royalties  on his Poe-inspired movies.
             2. World Religion Day--celebrating the diversity all faiths and beliefs on this very crowded   planet of ours.
             3. World Day of Migrants and Refugees--100 years strong, started by the Catholic Church--the world may be flat economically, technologically and epediologically but still a lot of mountains to climb for the millions of migrants and refugees fleeing war, famine and natural disasters or seeking a better life for themselves and their children.
             4. National Popcorn Day-- my favorite as a highly evolved popcornivore, but hard to partake in a movie when two pounds of popcorn sells for $2.29 at Ralphs and a small bag, and I do mean small, sells for north of $5.00 at most theaters.
On this day in:
             a.  1983 Apple announced Lisa, the first commercial PC with mouse and graphical user interface.
             b.  1986 the first IBM PC virus, dubbed (c) Brain, was released into the wild: sadly it was not the last, followed by much more deadly descendants.
             c.  2012 the FBI shut down the Hong-Kong based Megaupload file sharing website prompting attacks by hackers world wide on the websites of the federal government and entertainment companies.
The words may be different; but the meaning is still the same and a good moral compass to follow: "Hurt not others in ways you would find hurtful to yourself." Buddhism, "What is hateful to you do not to your fellow man. That is the law; all the rest is commentary." Judaism "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Christianity, "No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself." Islam, "Blessed is he who preferreth his brother before himself." Baha'i Faith
Hope you take five from your day of 24/7 and the NFL Playoff games on Sunday (go Broncos and go 49ers--both force of habit for this Stanford grad (Elway gm at Denver and Harbaugh and legacy of John Brodie at 49ers) and please enjoy the 140 character poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and join 135 growing  followers and  please follow me) and follow my blogs. Still in the works comment on the Imperial Presidency's power grab.
