Septemberr 30 History Blasphemy Day

        1. International Translation Day—celebrating since 1991 the valuable service of translators who enable us humans with different tongues to understand each other.
        2. Blasphemy Day--celebrating since 2009 the right to criticize and examine religious beliefs; this is a benefit under our First Amendment that if practiced under Sharia would result in death.
        3. Eternity Is Forever When On Film Day--celebrating the birthday on this day in 1921 of Deborah Kerr, a great actress born in Scotland who won an Oscar in From Here to Eternity.
       4. National Mulled Cider Day—honoring one of the great hot drinks for the fall season with or without a dash of rum.         
On this day in
           a. 1927 Babe Ruth became the first player to hit 60 home runs.
           b. 1955 James Dean was killed in a car accident.
           c. 1980 Ethernet specifications were published by Xerox in cooperation with Intel and Digital Equipment Corporation  
           d. 2005 cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad were published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands- Posten prompting riots and demonstrations though out the Muslim world.
War and Peace perhaps on this day to celebrate blasphemy: “The sanctification of political power by Christianity is blasphemy; it is the negation of Christianity.” Leo Tolstoy, iconic Russian writer and philosopher of the 19th Century.

September 29 History International Coffee Day

          1. International Coffee Day—celebrating the reason why most of us can function—a cup of coffee with that great hit of caffeine.
          2. World Heart Day--- celebrating and creating awareness for one the great marvels of the world the human heart that pumps relentlessly for as long as we are vertical an breathing on this planet—be kind to it today with some exercise, no smoking, and some healthy foods. 
        3. National VFW Day—celebrating the creation of the VFW on this day in 1899; great organization especially on the 4th or Memorial Day when the members are often the color guard in a parade.   
       4. Confucius Day—honoring one of the iconic scholars and philosophers of the human era born in 551 B.C. whose sayings and thoughts still ring true today
          5. National Mocha Day—celebrating a great way to drink your coffee.
On this day in
           a. 1789 The Department of War of the U.S. established the regular army with a strength of a couple hundred soldiers—the benefit of having the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans as moats. 
         b. 1951 CBS made the first color television sets available for sale to the public; but after a month sales were discontinued after sales of only 100 units.
           b. 1951 the first live sporting event, a college football game between Duke and the University of Pittsburgh, was televised nationally.
           c. 2008 following the bankruptcies of Lehman Brothers and Washington Mutual, the Dow Jones Average fell 777.8 points the largest drop in history.

September 28 History World Rabies Day

          1. World Rabies Day—another U.N. observance since 2007 to promote awareness of rabies which is a terrible disease and the shots after being bitten by an infected animal are not a walk in the park.
          2. Freedom From Hunger Day—celebrated since 2006 to create awareness of the problem of hunger both here and especially in the world.
          3. Gold Star Mothers’ Day—honoring the mothers of this nation who have lost their children while they were serving in times of war.
          4. National Drink Beer Day—fortunately a holiday which is celebrated only one day a year; otherwise we not get anything done.
          5. National Strawberry Cream Pie Day—celebrating a great dessert.
On this day in
           a. 1928 Sir Alexander Fleming noticed a bacteria killing mold in his laboratory which later became known as penicillin.

September 27 History World Tourism Day

          1. World Tourism Day—another U.N. holiday since `970 honoring the  contributions of tourism to the world economy—if you see someone in California from another country who appears lost, help them out and encourage them to spend more money while visiting—sales tax revenue is a good thing for our budget.
          2. National Hunting and Fishing Day/ Fish Amnesty Day--celebrating two holidays that are truly the Ying and the Yang—encourage fishing and also per PETA since 1970 encourage the non consumption of fish. Only in America!
          3. Kiwanis Kids Day—celebrated since 1949 to promote the welfare of children.
          4. Family Health and Fitness Day—celebrating the need for and benefits of family exercise and physical fitness.
          5. National Chocolate Milk Day—celebrating a great way to get your calcium and satisfy one’s chocolate cravings.
On this day in
           a. 1777 Lancaster, PA became the capital of the United States for one day when the Continental Congress fled Philadelphia from the advancing British.                                                             
           b.1905 The physics journal Annalen der Physik received Albert Einstein’s paper "Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?", introducing the equation E=mc2. 
           c. 1941 the USS Patrick Henry the first of 2700 Liberty Ships was launched; the number of ships produced and the speed in which they were produced doomed the Germans in the Battle of the Atlantic.  
           d. 1998 the birthday of the Google search engine.
