September 14 History National Hug Your Hound Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—September 14, 2014Trust your weekend is proving to be a good one and that you enjoy the meager holidays and factoids and quote from Grace Kelly without a cream filled donut in your hand, a smile on your sunscreened face, a positive attitude, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for a memorable event, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem tailored to the event and the recipient. Another shutout win for the Cardinal against Army with a tough game against Washington on the 27th. Tough loss for the Trojans against Boston College.
I have posted on my blog a poem on 911 and Mike Kehoe’s bravery—I think you will enjoy it.
           1. National Cream Filled Donut Day—here is a clue on why this nation is becoming more obese—having another excuse to power down some high caloric food.
           2. Salivate Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1849 of Nobel Prize winning Russian scientist who is remembered  for auto response behavior mechanisms, e.g. teaching his dog to salivate each time he rang a bell.
          3. National Hug Your Hound Day—celebrating acts of kindness and affection for one’s four legged canine friends; created by canine behaviorist Ami Moore.
          4. Grace Day—bemoaning the death of a great actress and Princess of Monaco on this day in 1982 from an automobile accident the day caused by a stroke while she was driving with her daughter who survived.
On this day in
             a. 1960 OPEC was founded to the dismay of net oil importing countries like the U.S.
             b. 1969 the Selective Service selected this day as the first Draft Lottery Date.
             c. 1984 Joe Kittinger became the first person to cross the Atlantic in a gas balloon.
             d. 2000 Microsoft launched Windows ME.
Reflections from Grace Kelly whose name was aptly chosen: “The freedom of the press works in such a way that there is not much freedom from it.” Grace Kelly Wise observation especially if paparazzi are involved.
