September 28 History World Rabies Day

          1. World Rabies Day—another U.N. observance since 2007 to promote awareness of rabies which is a terrible disease and the shots after being bitten by an infected animal are not a walk in the park.
          2. Freedom From Hunger Day—celebrated since 2006 to create awareness of the problem of hunger both here and especially in the world.
          3. Gold Star Mothers’ Day—honoring the mothers of this nation who have lost their children while they were serving in times of war.
          4. National Drink Beer Day—fortunately a holiday which is celebrated only one day a year; otherwise we not get anything done.
          5. National Strawberry Cream Pie Day—celebrating a great dessert.
On this day in
           a. 1928 Sir Alexander Fleming noticed a bacteria killing mold in his laboratory which later became known as penicillin.  
           b. 1951 CBS made the first color television sets available for sale to the public; but after a month sales were discontinued after sales of only 100 units.
           c. 2006 SpaceX launched the first private spacecraft, the Falcon 1, into orbit.
