Ridley's Believe It Or Not--This Day In History--January 18, 2014

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--January 18, 2014:  Slim pickings for holidays today, but did find these gems of questionable popularity and sanity (other than Pro-Life Day) to celebrate:
             1.
Polar Bear Jump Off, Seward, Alaska  Did not know they had two-legged polar bears, not on my bucket list, not now, not ever--at least in California on New Year's Day Polar Bear swims, the air temperature is in the mid sixties, no rain and the water temperature is in the high 50's as opposed to Seward with an air temperature of 39, raining with a 15 mph wind and a water temperature of 39--no wonder Alaska has only 3 electoral votes!
             2. Winnie-the Pooh Day--creator Alexander Alan Milne born on this day in 1882 to the delight of millions of children who fell in love with Winnie-the Pooh and his friends.
             3. Thesaurus Day--creator Peter Roget born on this day in 1779---Both Reds and Blues need to use it as there have to be some non-inflammatory words there to get their points across.
             4. Pro-Life Day-- Hope the quote below does some justice to the passions that the issues surrounding this day can evoke.
On this day in:
             a.  1977 scientists isolated the virus responsible be Legionnaire's Disease.
             b.  1993 Martin Luther King Day was celebrated for the first time in all 50 states.
             c.  2012  a series of coordinated actions (including a blackout of Wikipedia) took place in protest against SOPA ( Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act). Hard to imagine a world today without Wikipedia.
On Thesaurus Day another meaning for pro-life  "I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is. Sister Jean Chisstler, Benedictine Nun. Good place to begin a debate, if a debate has to be had on this difficult issue.
