July 23, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Clear The Shelters Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 23, 2016. Unfortunately still 181 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 232 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; WikiLeaks releasing emails that show from the very start the Debbie Wasserman Schulz and the DNC were doing everything in their power to torpedo Sanders’ campaign (hope the passionate Sanders supporters retaliate by voting for Trump or staying home); after slamming Trump from his delusional view of the world that it is less violent than it has ever been, nine Germans in Munich shot by an Iranian German are reposing in a morgue; three Floridians have just been arrested for conspiring to aid ISIS; HRC picks Senator Kaine as a running mate who back in last November had the integrity to admit that Obama in essence has no strategy to combat the chaos of radical Islam (will he bring it today—doubt it); in Obama’s non violent world delusion, two ISIS suicide bombers killed 64 and wound over two hundred peaceful protestors demonstrating that a new power line would bypass their community (so outrageous that even the “paragons of tolerance, the Taliban” condemned the attack; in yet another example of fraud and abuse that plagues government spending programs, the DOJ charge three individuals in Florida with defrauding Medicare of $1 billion; HRC lost 11,000 potential voters as the Virginia Supreme Court threw out Democratic and Hillary governor Terry MacAuliffe’s executive order granting 200,000 felons the right to vote; Governor Jerry Brown overturned the recommendation of the California Parole Board and refused to grant parole to Leslie Van Houten, a Charles Manson follower who participated in the Sharon Tate murder over 40 years ago.

As always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances,  a music link to Rosemary Clooney, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from an anonymous source while looking forward to enjoying a large bowl of vanilla ice cream, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Day of the Cowboy—observed on the fourth Saturday of July to commemorate our western heritage; this would be a good day to go to a stable and rent a horse for a leisurely ride.
2. National Clear the Shelters Day—a dog is always a man’s best friend and so is a feline but not if they are in a shelter waiting for ultimate execution if not adopted; today would be a great day to go to your local animal shelter as opposed to a pet store and adopt a pet. Love by an animal is not a function of pedigree or price tag.
3. 1951 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1951 on a run of 6 weeks in that position “Come On-a My House” by Rosemary Clooney. Here is a link to Rosemary Clooney performing the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mriXncI96lw A long time smoker who battled alcohol and prescription drug addiction she continuing recording albums until her death in 2002 from--you guessed it—lung cancer.
4. National Vanilla Ice Cream Day—perfect time to enjoy this summer favorite especially if topped with berries that are now in abundance at cheap prices.
5. Burn the Blue Dress Wear Red Instead—celebrating the birthday of a real victim of the war on woman waged by Hillary Clinton with a vengeance, Monica Lewinsky who was ravaged by the media and Clintonites over her affair with Bill Clinton, our noted ex-President and sexual predator who is probably licking his chops at the opportunity to roam the White House halls in search of young female interns. A bright woman who this poet hopes will come out in support of Donald Trump who as his daughter Ivanka attests is when it comes to employment gender neutral.
On this day in:
a. 1829 William Austin Burt patented the typographer, the precursor to the typewriter.
b. 1914 Austria-Hungary  issued a series of ultimatums to Serbia is allow Austria to determine who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife; Serbia agreed to all but one demand and Austria declared war five days later which quickly became the calamity known as World War I.
c. 1967 in Detroit one of the worst riots in American history began along 12th Street after police raided an unlicensed after hour bar and quickly escalated to the point of the governor sending in the Michigan National Guard and LBJ sending in combat forces of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions and when it ended four days later 43 people were dead, over a 1,000 injured, 2,000 structures damaged and over 7,000 people arrested.
d. 1984 Vanessa Williams became the first Miss America to resign after nude photos of her were published in Penthouse Magazine.
e. 1992 in what the Vatican must now regret a commission led by Joseph Ratzinger found that limiting rights of homosexuals and non-married couples was not the equivalent of discrimination based on race or gender.
Reflections on why adopting a dog today would be a great idea for its new owner: “It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.” Anon   How true, how true!  Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs. July 22, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Rat Catchers Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 22, 2016. Unfortunately still 182 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 231 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; Ivanka and Trump both hit it out of the park last night and the confetti one saw at the end of the RNC had to have been the race and gender cards that HRC must play to hide her pathetic record and her lies being torn to shreds by Ivanka’s “color blind gender neutral” introduction speech http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2016/07/trump-and-ivanka-hit-it-out-of-park.html; Peter Thiel made history as the first gay speaker to announce that he was proud to be gay to loud applause and advised the party to shy away from the culture wars; this poet is going to miss the political theater of the RNC knowing that the DNC will be described in one word “boring;” the only drama left for the Blues is who Hillary will pick as a running mate; breaking news out of Munich of a shooting spree in the Munich Olympia Mall with the number shooters and the number of dead and wounded not yet confirmed but the Munich transportation system in response shut down and the main train station evacuated as unconfirmed reports of shootings occurring in other parts of the city are being reported—another bad day for the civilized world from the threat of radical Islam that Obama in his delusions continues to assure us is being contained.
On the sports front Dennis Green former long time coach of the Green Bay Packers and a former head coach at Stanford died of a heart attack; the NBA as a result of North Carolina’s transgender bathroom law announced that the 2017 NBA All Star Game will not be played there.    Going to www.lyingcrookedhillary.com is a great way to start your day along of course with www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com
As always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances,  a music link to Nat King Cole, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Jeff Shesol on the anniversary of his birthday while looking to enjoy some penuche frosting,  blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. 1. Rat Catchers Day—commemorating the myth of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
2. Hammock Day—created to popularize that great way to beat the heat on warm summer day by relaxing in a hammock underneath two large share trees, sipping some iced tea.     3. 1950 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1950 on a run of 5 weeks in that position “Mona Lisa” by Nat King Cole. Here is a link to Nat King Cole in a tux performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIDX18Xl16s
4. National Penuche Day—celebrating a confection made with brown sugar.
5. Third in Line—celebrating the birthday on this day in 2013 of Prince George the first son of Kate Middleton and Prince William; lucky guy is third in line to the English throne.
On this day in:
a. 1916 in San Francisco, a suitcase bomb detonated during a Preparedness Day Parade celebrating the need to start preparations for the anticipated entry of the U.S. in World War I against Germany; the blast killed 10 people and wounded 40.
b. 1933 aviator Wiley Post completed the first round the world solo trip in an airplane in seven days, eighteen hours and forty-nine minutes.
c.  1937 the U.S. Senate voted down President Roosevelt’s attempt to increase the number of justices for SCOTUS.
d. 1942 the United States instituted gasoline rationing due to wartime demands for gasoline for the armed forces.
e. 1991 serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested in Milwaukee after police find human body parts  in his apartment (he was convicted of the rape, murder, necrophilia and dismemberment of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, sentenced to life imprisonment which proved to  be somewhat brief as he was beaten to death by another inmate on November 28, 1994.
Reflections on FDR’s attempt to pack SCOTUS with additional judges if any judge over the age of 70 would not retire: “Age does not define ideology. Even though Roosevelt looked at what he called the 'nine old men of the Supreme Court' and suggested that the older justices were falling out of touch with reality, the oldest justice on that court in the 1930s was Brandeis, the great liberal justice. And this was pointed out with glee with many of Roosevelt's opponents. ... So, you don't hear anything like that today. You hear concern on the part of progressives in this country that Justice Stevens and the other liberals are more likely to leave the court soon than any of the conservatives are, but I think we've come a long way since the 1930s, when that argument was  made so forcefully by Franklin Roosevelt." July 21, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Racial Harmony Day (Singapore)

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 21, 2016. Unfortunately still 183 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 230 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; Ted Cruz committed hopefully political suicide by not rambling for 21 minutes at the RNC without endorsing Donald Trump and was finally booed off the stage; sadly his speech and the media attention today overshadowed a great performance by Mike Pence; this RNC has been plagued by missteps like the controversy over Melania’s speech containing some plagiarisms on Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech that have clouded the performances of Chris Christie or Rudy Giuliani; one can only hope that Trump hits it out of the park tonight because the Blues will have their A-team totally unified for their convention next week; in a just what we do not need again moment North Miami police wound an unarmed black caregiver for an autistic child who was lying on his back with both hands up in the air next to his patient (no wonder minorities have a problem with police); in another reminder that despite Obama’s assurances to the contrary ISIS is nowhere near contained as Brazilian police arrested 10 ISIS linked jihadists who were planning an attack during the Rio Summer Olympics; Erdogan has been granted sweeping powers to curb dissent following the failed coup.

As always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances,  a music link to Vaughn Monroe, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Robin Williams on the anniversary of his birthday while looking to avoiding any junk food, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. 1. Racial Harmony Day (Singapore)—a observance dedicated to restoring harmony between the Malay and Chinese populations of Singapore to insure that the 1964 Race Riots that occurred on this day never occur again.
2. Get To Know Your Customer Day—customers are the life blood of any business large or small and any business that does not learn its customers’ needs, preferences and dislikes is doomed to fail.
3. 1949 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1949 on a long run of 11 weeks in that position “Ghost Riders in the Sky” by Vaughn Monroe. Here is a link to Vaughn Monroe performing the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHo6ug6yAmw  4. National Junk Food Day—given the growing obesity in Americans and the high intake of salt, this is definitely a holiday that should not be celebrated or observed.
5. The Laugh on the Outside Cry on the Inside—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1951 of a great comic and actor Robin Williams who despite all his fame and income suffered from depression and bouts of alcoholism and took his own life on August 11, 2014.
On this day in:
a. 356 B.C. the Temple of Artemis, on the Seven Wonders of the World, located at Ephesus in present day Turkey was destroyed by fire.
b. 1904 Louis Rigoly broke the 100 mph barrier in a Gobron-Brillie.
c.  1949 the U.S. Senate ratified the North Atlantic Treaty which created NATO to check and contain Soviet expansion in Europe.
d. 1970 after 11 years of construction, the Aswan High Dam in Egypt was completed.
e. 2012 Erden Eruc became the first person to complete a solo human powered  circumnavigation of the world after a 4i, 167 miles in five years, 11 days, 22 hours and five minutes using a row boat, sea kayak, canoe, bicycle and his feet as the modes of transportation.
A classic example of Robin Williams’ humor that has caused over the years millions upon millions to laugh until their sides hurt: “What kind of food did we drop on Afghanistan? Pop-Tarts, peanut butter…just add a Honey Baked Ham and you've got a redneck Christmas. Why are we dropping this food on Afghanistan? Tastes a hell of a lot better than dirt, #1. #2, difficult to have a call to jihad with a mouth full of peanut butter. Thirdly, Afghanistan is a hashish-smoking culture, and anyone who's ever been a friend of the hookah will go, (intense, stoned stare) "Pop-Tarts!" Robin Williams His death was such a waste, but maybe his discovery of the early signs of Parkinson’s disease was too much for him. Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs. July 20, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not International Chess Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 20, 2016. Unfortunately still 184 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 229 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; RNC featured Chris Christie with the delegates chanting “lock her up” (better chant would have been in relation to the White House “lock her out” and Donald Trump, Jr. who really made the case for his father relating to the mere mortals who are blue collar workers—Hillary has not had any contact with blue collar workers in her privileged I am above the law position since she worked in a fish processing plant in Valdez, Alaska in the summer of 1969; the fixation by the left over Melania’s speech and the claim of plagiarism of two paragraphs of Michelle’s 2008 speech continues in a frenzy to attempt to keep the Trump campaign off message—bring back Camelot and a legal immigrant who loves and is proud to be an American as opposed to a sexual predator prowling the White House to seduce interns; Pence addresses the RNC today in what hopefully will be a unifying moment; on the nonpolitical front and a reminder of how fragile our environmental safety can be, beaches from Long Beach to Seal Beach in Southern California were closed due to a massive sewage leak; on a positive note the best thing about the RNC is that we have not had to endure speeches by HRC which given her volume and moving of her head up and down like a dog on a dashboard are in terms of pain like a Martian in Mars Attacks exposed to the yodeling of Slim Whitman that caused their heads to explode in utter pain:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSbigjiKLoU

1. International Chess Day—created by UNESCO to promote the mind challenging game of chess which when played against Watson we poor humans, even chess masters are getting trounced.
2. Take Your Poet to Work Day—great concept but unfortunately does not involve taking poets like me to work but rather coloring books and swizzle sticks with cutouts of famous poets on the head.
3. 1948 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1948 on a run of 6 weeks in that position “Woody Woodpecker” by Kay Kyser. Here is a link to Kay Kyser performing the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyCDt5rZ5b0 Can you possibly imagine dancing to this?
4. National Ice Cream Soda Day—perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day.
5. Drinking and Boating Never a Great Idea—celebrating the birthday in 1938 of Natalia Zacharenko better known to us as Natalie Wood, an incredibly talented actress starting out as a child in The Miracle on 34th Street and continuing until she drowned off Catalina Island at the age of 43 with a blood alcohol level of .14 percent. On this day in:
a. 1903 the Ford Motor Company shipped its first car and the age of mass produced autos in the U.S. was off and running.
b. 1938 the Justice Department filed suit against the motion picture industry claiming violations of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act due to its studio system
c. 1969 Apollo 11 successfully landed on the surface of the moon; Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first human beings to walk on the surface of the moon.
d. 1997 the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned ship in the U.S. Navy set sail again after 116 years of being mothballed.
e. 2015 the U.S. and Cuba restored full diplomatic relations with each other after five decades following the severing of diplomatic relations due to Castro’s seizing of all American property on the island.
Conchita  Reflections on Cuba and another failure of those nations who follow the siren call of Sanders’ failed ideas on the anniversary of our reestablishing relations with its repressive regime: “Being born in Cuba, a country where freedom of speech is non-existent, it's startling to observe how Venezuela, where I was happily raised, is fast becoming Cuba's mirror image: Dismantling of fundamental democratic rights deserved by its people and citizens of the world.” Maria Alonso,
noted Cuban born and raised in Venezuela actress and singer and critic of Castro and the socialist government in Venezuela

July 19, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Flight Attendant Safety Professionals' Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 19, 2016. Unfortunately still 185 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 228 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; the RNC opened on Monday with a raucous floor fight that the “Never Trump” movement lost; killer speech by Melania Trump (the only thing the Blues can do is sputter that she borrowed lines from Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech but Melania Trump will never say that with Donald’s nomination it will be the first time that this legal immigrant is proud to be an American) http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2016/07/bimbo-express-for-air-force-one-or.html; great impassioned speeches by Pat Smith (as a mom she was on point as Hillary should be wearing stripes), two Benghazi heroes, and Rudy Giuliani; on a tragic and ironic note, an impromptu “Stop the Violence”  rally of 300 at a Cleveland lakeside park a 19 year old black male was shot and killed and a 12 year old wounded with shooter still at large; since she has no record to run on, Hillary called Trump unfit to be president and the most dangerous and reckless man ever to run for the office (brace yourself for a remake of the anti Goldwater ad of the little girl picking petals from a daisy only to be obliterated by an atomic bomb detonation); another radical Islamist attack by axe and knife in Europe by an Afghan teen inspired by ISIS on a German train before being shot and killed by police (do we feel safe with Obama and Clinton both calling for the acceptance of hundreds of thousands of refugees from the Middle East?) http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2016/07/islamist-axes-and-knives-20-plus-on.html; Erdogan continues to arrest 1,000’s while calling for restoration of the death penalty and to purge teachers, military, judges, and media workers suspected of having ties to the coup or opposing him.

1. Flight Attendant Safety Professionals’ Day—first observed by presidential proclamation to honor the contribution of the men and women in the cabin of an airliner to insure passenger safety—too bad they are powerless over the lack of food, the carryon baggage charges, high fares or the lack of leg room.
2. National Flitch Day—an old English custom that rewarded a couple that did not repent their marriage for a year and a day with a flitch (slab) of bacon (great concept in divorce plagued states like California as a motivator for fidelity unless of course the couple are vegetarians).
3. 1947 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1947 on a run of 4 weeks in that position “Peg O’ My Heart” by the Harmonicats. Here is a link to the Harmonicats performing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BIuX7IsdE8 Check out the size of the harmonicas used.

On this day in:
a. 1553 Lady Jane Grey was replaced by Mary ! as the Queen of England after nine days on the throne and was soon beheaded.
b. 1843 in a shrinking of the oceans moment after four years of construction, Brunel’s SS Great Britain was launched as the first ship with an iron hull and screw propeller and a thousand horsepower steam engine.
c.  1979 the Sandinista rebels in Nicaragua overthrew the regime of the Somoza family that had ruled Nicaragua for decades and had systematically killed thousands and looted the country of millions.
d. 1981 in a private meeting with President Reagan, French Prime Minister Francois Mitterand revealed the existence of the Farewell Dossier, a collection of documents that Soviet Colonel Vladimir Vetrov, a KGB defector(code-named “Farewell”) had gathered and given to the French DST in 1981-82 during the Cold War that showed, to no one’s surprise that the Soviets had systematically been stealing American technology.
e. 1983 the first three dimensional model of a human head in a CT Scan was published.
The basic creed of any corrupt politician seeking to become an autocratic ruler: “Indeed, you won the elections, but I won the count.” Anastosa Somosa former dictator of Nicaragua   Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs. July 18, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not International Nelson Mandela Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 18, 2016. Unfortunately still 186 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 227 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference (she did have time to pander today to the NAACP (which has demanded that the federal government defund any police department which practices discrimination); the RNC opens today with protestors vowing to march on it; Kasich continues to act like a spoiled child who did not get his way by boycotting it.  http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2016/07/crybaby-kasich-boycotting-rnc-total.html ; the politically motivated Mosby is now 0-4 against the six officers she filed charges against and faces malicious prosecution charges; Erdogan has now arrested over 6,000 over the failed coup attempt and is on a path to create Turkey as an Islamic state and wants us to extradite a Muslim cleric Gulen who could reform Islam and purge it of its radical ways; even though this poet opposes most of Obama’s views I have to compliment him for his remarks and style while awarding a long overdue Congressional Medal of Honor to helicopter pilot Lt. Col Charles Kettles, Rtr.
On the sports front the World Anti-Doping Agency has called for the banning of not just track and field athletes but the banning of the entire Russian team from the Rio Summer Olympics (good for them) and New England safety Nate Ebner has made the U.S. Rugby Team. Going to www.lyingcrookedhillary.com is a great way to start your day along of course with www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com

1. International Nelson Mandela Day—a UN observance since 2010 celebrating the birthday of Nelson Mandela and his accomplishments and struggles to rid South Africa of apartheid. 2. National Get Out Of The Doghouse Day—a whimsical holiday almost like the “Get out of jail free” card in Monopoly to use to mend your relationships with someone you care about but have done something wrong to or failed to do something that person expected of you. Candidly this observance should be celebrated simultaneously with National Forgiveness Day which is observed on June 26 which would make it far easier to get out of the proverbial doghouse.
3. 1946 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1946 on a run of ten weeks in that position “The Gypsy” by the Ink Spots. Here is a link to the Ink Spots performing the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG6g5CkyWAo
4. National Caviar Day—perfect time to enjoy some caviar especially since after the ban on sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea more likely than not the caviar you enjoy will have come from aquaculture in Italy.
5. Unsinkable Is Unthinkable—celebrating the birthday of socialite and activist Margaret Brown a survivor of the Titanic sinking and forever known as “the Unsinkable Molly Brown.”
On this day in:
a. 1290 King Edward I issued the Expulsion Proclamation banning all Jews numbering about 16,000 from Great Britain.
b. 1902 Willis Carrier created the first air conditioner at Buffalo, New York.
c. 1925 Adolf Hitler published Mein Kampf, a book that more people like Neville Chamberlin or Joseph Stalin should have read.
d. 1968 Intel was formed.
e. 2013 the city of Detroit with over $20 billion in debt and burdened with oppressive union contracts, declining population and businesses, and increasing numbers of abandoned buildings filed for bankruptcy, the largest municipal bankruptcy in our history.
It takes one to know one reflections: “GM is proud to call Detroit home and today’s bankruptcy declaration is a day that we and others hoped would not come. We believe, however, that today also can mark a clean start for the city.” General Motors press release   Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs. July 17, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not International Firgun Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 17, 2016. Unfortunately still 187 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 226 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; horrific news out of Baton Rouge as 6 police officers were shot this morning with three killed in an ambush that left one shooter dead and perhaps two suspects in the ambush at large (several police chiefs were interviewed on Fox and laid the blame on Obama and the Governor of Minnesota for their rhetoric as adding fuel to the racial tension fire); Cleveland is beginning to look like an armed camp with its police chief calling on the governor to suspend Ohio’s open carry gun law during the Republican Convention which convenes on Monday; Turkey ramps up its call for us to extradite Cleric Gulen back to Turkey for his roll in plotting (which Gulen strenuously denies) the failed coup which caught us completely by surprise, like Russian movement into the Crimea; Gulen and his Gulen Movement are exactly the kind of Muslims we must have to expose that radical Islam practiced by such groups as ISIS is a flawed ideology and must be rejected completely by the Muslim community (watching the arrests of the plotters  of coup and Erdogan’s vow to punish harshly those involved extraditing the frail old cleric would be the equivalent of a death sentence); in another example of the fact that socialism does not work, tens of thousands of Venezuelans near starvation crossed into Columbia to buy food and medicine on Saturday when the border was again briefly opened; on the sports front Nate Thurmond died at 74.     Going to www.lyingcrookedhillary.com is a great way to start your day along of course with www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com
As always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances,  a music link to Les Brown, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from the Niger Innis while looking forward to enjoying a generous serving of peach ice cream, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Firgun Day—celebrating the empathetic joy in the accomplishments of others devoid of envy, jealousness or ulterior motives. This would be on the eve of the Republican Convention and in the aftermath of another police ambush a good observance to celebrate and follow in one’s daily life.
2. International Justice Day—celebrated since 2010 to recognize the growing system of international criminal justice in such areas as genocide,  war crimes, crimes against humanity or aggression or bemoaning the creeping loss of sovereignty as the flipside of the movement.
3. 1945 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1945 on a run of nine  weeks in that position “Sentimental Journey” by Les Brown and his Band of Renown. Here is a link to Les Brown and his Band of Renown  performing “Sentimental Journey” with vocals by Doris Day.
4. National Peach Ice Cream Day—perfect time to double down on this treat by topping your bowl with sliced fresh peaches which are in season and a real bargain in the supermarkets.
5. Grisham’s Law Corollary To Gresham’s Law—celebrating the law that we overvalue authors and undervalue lawyers by honoring the birthday on this day in 1889 of Erle Stanley Gardner, an iconic detective novelist who the left the practice of 1933 to write some 60 Perry Mason novels. Just like the world needs more poets and fewer lawyers; the world needs more authors and fewer lawyers.
On this day in:
a. 1867 the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, the first dental school in  the U.S. affiliated with a university was established in Boston..
b. 1902 Willis Carrier created the first air conditioner at Buffalo, New York.
c. 1955 Disneyland, “the Happiest Place on Earth” was dedicated and opened in Anaheim, California.
d. 1984 the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 was passed which mandated a 10 percent reduction in federal highway funds to any state that did not have a minimum drinking age of at least 21; why the Blues in the Senate continue to block the same type legislation for states with “Sanctuary Cities”  is a complete mystery and source of outrage.
e. 2014 Malaysia  Airlines Flight 17 was shot down over the Ukraine by a Russian SAM either fired by Russians or Russian backed Ukrainian rebels killing all 298 people on board. No one has been brought to justice for this heinous crime.
A reflection on genocide that BLM in its pursuit of condemning police shootings of unarmed blacks has chosen to ignore as they must not be reading the Chicago, New York, Baltimore or any major metropolitan newspapers: “There is a genocide that is taking place among black men, in particular young black men, but it is not a genocide being perpetuated by white cops, by the Nazis, or by the Klan. Unfortunately and tragically, it is being perpetuated by other young black men. Niger Innis, National Spokesperson for CORE, active in the Tea Party and former Repubican Congressional candidate in Nevada. When it comes to black on black killings the sounds of silence from BLM are truly deafening. No wonder the police are believing more and more while they may have a badge in front they have a target on their back  Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
