October 9 , 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

Ridley's Believe It Or Not October 9, 2020 National Nanotechnology Day
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 221,172 new cases (a .60%  increase compared to a .84% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 36 million to 36,812,348, 8,046,451  of  which  are active, 28,763,897 of which have been closed with 27,698,287 recoveries (96.29% compared to  yesterday’s 96.28%) and 1,067,610 deaths (3.71% compared to yesterday’s 3.72%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.

CV USA Cases: New cases of 90,163 with total cases over 7 million at 7,745,705 (a 1.16% increase compared to yesterday’s .61% increase) with 2,591,804 active cases f which 14,653, recently on an upward trend with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23  (14,573 yesterday and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend continues to go down, and 5,244,064 closures, 217,785 of which have been deaths (4.15% compared to yesterday’s 4.16%) and 5,026,279 of which have been recoveries (95.85% compared to yesterday’s 95.84%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and on a deaths per million population measurement at 657 ranks behind Peru (1000), Belgium (873), Bolivia (702), Brazil (700), Spain (699), Chile (687), and Ecuador (685),  and only slightly worse than Mexico (643), UK (627), Italy (597), and Sweden (582) that never closed its economy down like we did and we have now conducted 115,347,779 tests (now at 347,924/M compared to Russia at 340,228/M so Trump is telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis for nations (but excluding nations with small populations like Denmark,  Israel and Singapore) but for the U.K. at 392,435/M).

Non CV Case News: Kamala Harris who is so motivated to be vice president since she believes as many do that Biden will not complete his first term caught chastised for lying through her teeth by of all sources, WAPO, on her little history lesson on Abe Lincoln not filling a vacancy before the election (she also flat out refused to answer a valid and important question would Biden if elected pack SCOTUS); Pelosi seems to have had a huge flare up of her TDS Stage 4 to coup proportions as she evidently is proposing legislation to to form a commission to evaluate the president for purposes removal under the 25th Amendment (Biden with his perceived dementia problems should be quaking in his boots but thankful the focus is not yet him); Senator Loeffler of Georgia is raising concerns that China is using nonprofits to meddle in our 2020 election and is asking for an investigation; some 6 weeks after being hit by Hurricane Laura, Louisiana is a bulls eye again for Hurricane Delta to make landfall today and follow almost the identical path albeit somewhat faster (residents in “Hurricane Alley” are waiting for Hurricane Omega to signal the end of the season); Governor Whitmer in blaming Trump for the plot to kidnap her and her family shows why manyu of us have applied the moniker “Witless” to her; Justice Ginsburg must be rolling in her grave over the politicization of SCOTUS as conservative and leftist groups are pouring millions of dollars of ad money in support of or in opposition to the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett (suspect she would be appalled over plans of the Blues to politicize even more the High Court by packing it); pity Portland having to endure weeks of endless riots and now has to chose for its mayor the incumbent Wheeler who has been an abject failure in restoring safety to the city and Sarah leading foe Sarah Innarone who if her fashion tastes indicates her political view the city is in a world of hurt as she was seen wearing a skirt with photos of Stalin, Mao and Che Guevara; Arizona has started early voting and the ballots are pouring in in spades; Facebook is rightfully castigated for its banning of conservative thought but ads for Walla Walla Sweet Onion seeds being banned as too sexually suggestive?

Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of October 8,  2020, the number of shootings increased to 3,300 of whom 565 have died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 306 behind Chicago at 259 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which  have  been way  more  deadly and way more numerous than shootings by  police or by random mass shootings which occur much less.

1.  Leif Erickson Day—celebrating the arrival in continental North America in what is now known as Newfoundland, Canada circa 1000; the day to celebrate was chosen to be this day as in represents the anniversary of the arrival of the Restauration from New York City on this day in 1825 from Stavanger, Norway packed with Norwegian immigrants.

           2.  National Nanotechnology Day—promoting nanotechnology and its benefits; the accomplishments of industry, academia, and government in nanotechnology R&D, commercialization, and education; and the future opportunities and promise for nanotechnology. The observance was first celebrated on October 9, 2016 and the date of October 9 was chosen since a nanometer is 10-9 meters.

           3. 1983 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1983 on a run of 4 weeks was “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler in her  first number 1 song with 8 other acts achieving their first number 1 song. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcOxhH8N3Bo. This 69 year old Welsh singer born Gaynor Hopkins has just released her 18 album and is going strong.

          4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “podagra” which means gout which is a painful condition one would want to wish on anyone.

         5. Three Strikes—celebrating the birth on this day in 1944 on John Entwistle, the original bass guitarist for the Who who had heart disease but smoked a pack of cigarettes a day and used cocaine and died a bit too early in his sleep on June 27, 2002 after spending the night in bed with a local stripper and groupie Alycen Rowse from a heart attack induced by a cocaine overdose.

         On this day in:

          a. 1974 the Universal Postal Union was created by the Treaty of Bern, making the world a smaller place for postal communications.

          b. 1967 a day after his capture by Bolivian troops, Ernesto “Che” Guevara was executed for trying to foment revolution in Bolivia.

          c. 1969 after demonstrations continued in Chicago, the Illinois National Guard was called out to control violence erupting as a result of the trial of the Chicago 8.

          d. 1986 The Phantom of the Opera, destined to become the second longest musical in London’s history opened at Her Majesty’s Theater.

         e. 1996 perpetrators who have never been caught but believed to have acted in response to the federal attack on the Branch Davidian complex near Waco, Texas sabotaged a section of rails for Amtrak’s Sunset Limited near Palo Verde, Arizona, causing it to derail, killing a sleeping car attendant and sending 25 passengers to the hospital, with 12 in serious condition.

Reflections on the federal anti-riot law used to prosecuted the Chicago 8: “The effect of this ‘anti-riot’ act is to subvert the first Amendment guarantee of free assembly by equating organized political protest with organized violence. Potentially, this law is the foundation for a police state in America.” Excerpt from 19 writers and thinkers calling themselves the Committee to Protect the Conspiracy in a letter to the New York Times Review of Books published 3 months before the trial began.
