November 11, 2019 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Veterans' DayFebruary

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For November 11, 2019 No holiday or event is sacred to the anti-Trump zealots on the left as his Veterans’ Day speech in NYC honoring veterans was interrupted by protestors screaming “Lock him up”(where are the political adults in the Swamp to tone down the dog whistles of hate and derision?); in Canada which celebrated Armistice by having citizens buy and wear red poppies, the icon of ice hockey broadcasters, Don Cherry, was terminated for his voicing displeasure that immigrants to Canada are not wearing poppies to honor the sacrifices made by Canadian vets (something is fundamentally wrong when criticizing immigrants for failing to assimilate warrants job dismissal); Senator Harris who is chomping at the bit to vote to remove Trump if the House is dumb and biased enough to impeach him since she would not beat him in an election released a profanity laced video on his 2016 complete with a teary-eyed 4 year old godson wanting HRC to win (this pseudo senator for all Californians not just illegal aliens is a complete joke and represents what this country does not need); Castro whose campaign rightfully so is going nowhere in a desperation move blasts the first election tests in Iowa and New Hampshire as they are not diverse enough (what an idiot who lacks any sense of history as lack of diversity did not prevent Obama from winning Iowa and tying Clinton in New Hampshire); Bernie Sanders may be a Socialist but despite his woeful lack of understanding on the economy he is smart enough to read the political tea leaves to see what happened to Bozo O’Dork advocating a mandatory buyback of some guns which Sanders has now proclaimed to be unconstitutional; while San Francisco is awash in feces, urine and discarded needles, BART can use its resources to detain a rider for eating a sandwich (misplaced priorities perhaps); Morning Joe usually is out to lunch with his anti-Trump rants but he may be on to something in his prediction that Haley’s book tour is an audition for Pence’s VP spot (Haley is certainly a rising star in the Republican Party and would be an asset against the claim that the party is merely a bunch of old white men); the Arctic must have missed the memo on climate change as chilling winds are battering the Midwest and Northeast bringing snow and chilling temperatures way below normal; CNN anchor Brian Stelter is the journalistic equivalent of “Helter Skelter” comparing the impeachment hearings to a TV episode and totally MIA in terms of the Epstein scandal and death (have to protect the reputation of Bill Clinton); on the impeachment front as public hearings are soon to begin, Andrew McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor, has written a well reasoned excellent piece that in the minds of the Democrats, Trump was guilty before he assumed office and the facts of the case do not support a finding of an impeachable offense--https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/impeachment-question-trump-andrew-mccarthy; in Chicago with a new interim police chief as of  November 10, 2019, 2422 have been shot, of whom, 414 have died but in a minor miracle none on the 8th or  9th ; in Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population, is coming in second place in the amount of gun deaths as 296 have been murdered (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to Barbara Streisand,  the fact you are blessed by being able to contain your profluent behavior and a relevant quote on the Armistice by Kurt Vonnegut,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Veterans’ Daycelebrating the active and past service of all military veterans in all branches which until 1954 used to be called Armistice Day to celebrate the end of the end of World War I, the war to end all wars whose moniker sadly did not prove true.
2. World Orphans Day—created by the Star Foundation in 2006 and observed on the second Monday in November  to promote awareness of the issues facing the some 150 million orphans created by diseases such as aids, poverty, wars and natural disasters.
3. 1980 Number 1 Number One Song— the number one song in 1980 on this day on a run of 2 weeks in the position was “Woman in Love” by Barbara Streisand. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQLGCX8D-1Y. This very talented singer and actress is still performing at 77 as is still the bane of many Republicans, especially Trump.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “profluent” which means exuberant which describes the behavior of Trump supporters at his rallies to a tee compared to Biden’s supporters who seem on life support.
5. Strip All the Way to the Bank--celebrating the birthday on this day in 1962 of noted actress Demi Moore best known for her role in Ghost and GI Jane and whose credits also include being paid over $12 million for her performance in Striptease.
On this day in:
      a. 1921 the Tomb of the Unknowns was dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery by President Harding.
      b. 1940 the Royal Navy launched 21 obsolete bi-planes to attack the Italian fleet at its base in Taranto with aerial torpedoes,  sinking one battleship and inflicting heavy damage on the other warships moored there.
      c. 1967 in a propaganda event, the Viet Cong turned over 3 American POWs to anti-war activist Tom Hayden who stood trial as one of the Chicago 7 Defendants and was married to “Hanoi Jane” Fonda.
 d. 1993 a sculpture honoring the women who served in the Vietnam War was dedicated at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
 e. 2004 the Palestine Liberation Organization confirmed the death of its leader Yasser Arafat from undisclosed causes.
Reflections on the Armistice ending World War I: “All the people of all the nations which had fought in the First World War were silent during the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of Armistice Day, which was the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It was during that minute in nineteen hundred and eighteen, that millions upon millions of human beings stopped butchering one another. I have talked to old men who were on battlefields during that minute. They have told me in one way or another that the sudden silence was the Voice of God. So we still have among us some men who can remember when God spoke clearly to mankind.” Kurt Vonnegut, noted author and World War II veteran who was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and survived the fire bombing of Dresden by hiding in a meat locker at his POW camp.
