April 9, 2019 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Winston Churchill Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For April 9, 2019 While our border burns the Blues are heads in the sand claiming a Trump manufactured crisis playing fiddles as over 103,000 illegals were apprehended or turned away; MSM continues to sink to all time lows in terms of honesty and integrity by distorting Trump’s characterization of MS-13 members as “animals” by claiming it applied to all illegals coming across our border (no wonder fake news outlets like CNN are sinking to all time viewership lows); another example of our open border in the news, William Chavez a convicted killer and member of MS-13 who was deported after serving his sentence in 2017 has been apprehended again by ICE in New York (why will the Blues not wake up and join with the Reds and pass Kate’s Law so criminal illegal aliens reentering this country can be put away in prison for long periods of time); William Barr is being grilled by the House Blues today pressing him to release the Mueller Report and dismissing his characterization of its no collusion findings; AOC is getting under Pelosi’s skin as Nancy demeaned her not by name but denigrating those who have a large number of followers on Twitter but are not working on the Blues’ agenda; on the global warming front, the National Weather Service has warned of a massive winter storm barreling down on the Midwest and East Coast; Representative Nadler is being rightfully blasted as a raving hypocrite after video has surfaced of him urging caution over releasing grand jury material contained in Ken Starr’s report on Bill Clinton (Trump has revealed that Nadler has had him in his sights since a real estate deal Nadler opposed went through and was successful—the only good thing you can say about this snake is that his last name rhymes with a poisonous one, an adler); the crowded Blue field of presidential wanna-bes just got more crowded as collusion delusion fanatic Eric Swalwell has just tossed his hat into the ring (watch for a war against the 2nd Amendment as a cornerstone of his campaign); Felicity Huffman and 12 other parents have announced they will plead guilty in the college admissions scandal; as of April 8, 2019 502 people have been shot in Chicago of whom 91 have died (what makes the Smollett case so frustrating is that it forced the city of Chicago to allocate scarce detective resources when in only 9% of the shootings resulting in murder have a suspect being charged this year).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you are blessed by being pancratic; and  a relevant quote the magazine A Model Electric Road on the beginnings of the Pacific Electric Railway Company, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. 1. National Former Prisoner Of War Recognition Day—created in 2016 to commemorate those men and women in service to our country that became prisoners of war.
2. Winston Churchill Day— commemorating the designation on this day in 1963 of Winston Churchill as a citizen of the United States.
3. 1982 Number One Song—the number one song on this day in 1982 on a run of 9 weeks in that position was “I Love Rock n’ Roll” by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFHg0uRAyVs  Joan is still going strong at 60 thanks to the fountain of youth which is rock and roll.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with “o” to words beginning with “p” is “pancratic” which means to excel all around in athletics or accomplishments which is a goal more often than not not met.
5. Not In The Script—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1966 of noted actress Cynthia Nixon who in 2018 challenged New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Blue primary and lost (Alec Baldwin are you listening as you tout that you would defeat Trump?).
       On this day in:
a. 1961 the Pacific Electric Railway Company famous for its Red Cars serving the Los Angeles basin and once the largest electric railway in the world ended its operations.
b. 1967 the Boeing 737 100, the ancestor of the Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 which is currently grounded following two deadly crashes, made its first flight.
c. 1981 the nuclear submarine USS George Washington accidentally collided with the Japanese cargo shipr Nissho Maru, sinking her with the loss of 2 Japanese crew members.
d. 1992 former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega was found guilty of racketeering and drug trafficking and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
e. 2005 Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in a civil ceremony in Westminster Cathedral’s Guildhall.
Reflections on the Pacific Electric Railway: "Any city in the country might well be proud of so perfect an electric transit system as that of the new Pasadena & Los Angeles Electric Railway; and it is doubtful if any other city can yet match it. Certainly New York has no surface road remotely to be compared with this. It is to the usual electric line what a Pullman service is to an old-fashioned car. The road runs from 4th Street in Los Angeles to Chestnut St., Pasadena(eleven miles) through the hitherto quiet district between Los Angeles and its chief suburb; and the effect of the line is already felt in every front foot of the distance. Thus made easy of access, the charming valley of the Arroyo Seco will be built up densely all the way. With its important termini, delightful itinerary, and magnificent equipment, the P&LA though already a large success, has every promise of growing to much greater things."  A Model Electric Road  Sadly due to cars and the freeways such prediction did not come to pass.
