Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For June 4, 2016 Finally only 230 more days to endure President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. At great sacrifice, political theater has had its curtain temporarily closed as the nation and the world mourn the death of Muhammad Ali, dead at 74:
Float like a butterfly
Sting like a bee
I was The Greatest, I was Muhammad Ali
At 74 my soul from Parkinson’s now set free
A Great man, the greatest boxer of all time
His gloves off forever--RIP!

Worst new jobs report in a long time as only 38,000 new jobs created as the participation in the labor market continues to free fall; judge indicates U.S. Women’s soccer have no right to strike over wages; in the French Open rumored to have been an ISIS terror target, Garbine Muguruza of Spain defeated defending champion Serena Williams, holder of 21 major championship titles; and in a final and sad note the missing bodies of 4 soldiers from Ft. Hood when, while on maneuvers, their truck flipped over have been recovered.

On this day in:
a. 1884 one year after the Montgolfier Brothers had demonstrated their hot air balloon, Elizabeth Thible became the first woman to go aloof in an untethered balloon in a flight that lasted 45 minutes, covered 4 kilometers and reached a height of 1500 meters.
b. 1974 in a classic example, just like driving, that beer and baseball don’t mix during 10 Cent Beer Night which lowered the price from 65 cents and removed the six beer limit per fan, highly intoxicated Cleveland Indian fans rioted in the ninth resulting in the forfeiture of the game to the Texas Rangers.
c. 1975 due in large part to the efforts of the Caesar Chavez, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act giving agricultural workers collective bargaining rights.
d. 1998 Terry Nichols was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the Oklahoma City bombing; his fellow conspirator was executed.
e. 2010 Falcon 9, produced by SpaceX made its first flight—SpaceX a company formed by PayPal and Tesla founder Elon Musk to lower space transportation costs and ultimately colonize Mars.
Reflections on why as the Chinese continue to become more aggressive and militarize the South China Sea we must never use ear plugs: “We know about every massacre that has taken place close to the present, but the ones in the distant past are like trees falling in the forest with no one to hear them.” Steven Pinker, noted Harvard professor and author on language, mind and human nature. I will bet a dime against a dollar that most Chinese in China have never known about Tiananmen Square, another casualty of a repressive regime and the lack of a free press.
