2. Blackout Wednesday—celebrating or better yet bemoaning an increasing trend to binge drink on the day before Thanksgiving since college students are home and no one works on Thanksgiving—be observant if driving tonight.
3. 1950 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1950 on a run of two weeks in that position Harbor Lights by Sammy Kaye. Here is a link to a Sammy Kaye recording of Harbor Lights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obFCM0OpEMI
4. National Parfait Day—celebrating a light desert on the eve of a walk into the valley of caloric overload tomorrow.
5. The Scent Of Leather—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1920 of noted Hispanic actor Ricardo Montalban who in his later years was a great pitchman for Chrysler and its leather seats.
On this day in:
a. 1783 England evacuated its troops from its last presence in the United States. b. 1792 the first edition of The Farmer’s Almanac was published.
c. 1867 Alfred Nobel patented the explosive dynamite that would make him millions and fund the Nobel Prize awards later.
d. 1884 John Meyenberg received a patent for evaporated milk.
e. 2014 Missouri Governor Jay Nixon ordered hundreds of Missouri National Guard troops into Ferguson, Missouri to quell a second night of rioting.
Reflections on violence against women: “Look, guys, no matter what a woman does, no matter how she dresses, no matter how much she drinks, it is never, never, never, never, never OK to touch her without her consent. This does not make you a man. It makes you a coward.” Joe Biden Joe is right on point on this and anyone who disagrees is an absolute fool.
