1. International Women’s Day—commemorating the struggle for women’s equality, especially in countries under the yoke of Sharia that really represses women.
2. Check Your Batteries Day—coinciding with the start of Daylight Savings Time as an easy day to remember that it is time to check the batteries in the smoke detector and monoxide detectors in one’s house as it is a great way to save one’s life in the event of an emergency.
3. 1976 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song on this day in 1976, as part of a 3 week run December, 1963 (Oh What a Night) by the Four Seasons, a band viewed by many as the best band before the Beatles and a band that has sold over 100 million records.
4. National Peanut Cluster Day—although this poet prefers almond clusters, this tasty treat of peanuts covered in chocolate is not too shabby.
5. Roots of Obesity Day—commemorating one of the major causes of obesity among our youth—the lack of exercise due to spending too much time playing video games—the birthday on this day in 1922 of Ralph H. Baer known as the “Father of Video Games” who like Einstein escaped Germany.

a. 1655 John Casor had the misfortune of being the first person to be declared a slave in North America in a case in which a crime had not been committed.
b. 1775 an anonymous writer believed to be Thomas Paine published an article “African Slavery in America” which called for the abolition of slavery.
c. 1817 the New York Stock Exchange was founded.
d. 1917 the U.S. Senate votes to limit filibusters by adopting the cloture rule which is why even though the Reds control the Senate, they do not have 60 seats and the Blues can block any legislation.
e. 2014 Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared and still after a year of extensive searching in the Indian Ocean no trace of wreckage has been found

The Ridley corollary would be: “The dumbest thing a guy could do would be to not appreciate a girl for her intelligence as it lasts a lot longer than beauty.”
