Ridley's Believe It Or
Not--January 9, 2014: Slow day and week (and I mean scrapping the
bottom of the barrel slow) for holidays unless your lucky enought to
celebrate:
1.
National Lose Weight/ Feel Great Week 1/5-1/12 shed those holiday pounds.
2. Elvis Presley Birthday Celebration
Week 1/8-1/11: Off to Vegas for CES and
Elvis
impersonators
while wearing your blue suede
shoes.
3.
International 3-D Week 1/7-1/10: Go see Gravity today or tomorrow.
On this day in:
a. 1987 China and Vietnam engaged in border skirmishes killing over 1,500
and discrediting the domino theory that put over 58,000 American
men and women's names on the Wall in D.C.
b. 2001 Apple announced iTunes as the MacWorld Expo in San Francisco.
c.
2007 Apple introduced the iPhone.
Oracles at Delphi were better
predictors of success that some market gurus in a rapidly
changing technological world: "Sales for the phone will
skyrocket initially. However, things will calm down, and the Apple phone
will take its place on the shelves with the random video cameras,
cellphones, wireless routers and other would-be hits.......and it
will largely fail." --Michael Kanellos, analyist in Silicon
Valley and editor at CNET. About as smart as the prediction that Beta would
trounce VHS--hindsight always wonderful.
Kudos to all the interesting consumer electronic products we will be hard
pressed to afford or understand on display the Internation CES happening
this week in Las Vegas.
