Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For December 15, 2018 a Texas
District Court Judge has ruled that with the elimination of the individual
mandate, Obamacare is unconstitutional (if you are opposed to Obamacare don’t
uncork the champagne as this will end up in the Supreme Court; the gaffe master
Joe Biden responding to some concerns over this age of 76 has floated the idea
of Beto O’Rourke as his running mate (if you thought Obama was not qualified
given his meager Senate, that meager experience trumps Beto’s minimal
experience in the state senate of Texas; former Democratic Chief Counsel
Epstein and former Federal Elections Commission Spakovsky have both agreed that
payment of hush money to two women was not a campaign election violation; small
signs that Trump is recognizing that he is human and can make mistakes first
admitting that he made a mistake in not participating in a wreath laying
ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans’ Day and then admitting to
Fox in an interview that he made a mistake in hiring Cohen and thirdly trying
to rectify his Arlington absence gaff by making an unscheduled stop
at Arlington to participate in a Wreaths Across America event; Ann Sonders, the
Chief Investment Strategist at Schwab, is raising the alarm that the U.S. is
headed for a recession in 2019 due to the trade war with China, the Fed’s path
in raising rates and the uncertainty over how and on what terms Britain is
going to be able to exit the EU; PG&E already under fire for its role in
causing the Woolsey fire with disastrous loss of property, is under investigation
by the California Public Utilities Commission over allegations that it has
falsified pipeline safety regulations for years (given the financial impact on
PG&E a time to short the stock?); Zinke has announced he is leaving the
Interior Department and Mulvaney has become Trump’s acting Chief of Staff
(still a lot of turmoil going on in the Trump Administration); Cohen the
admitted liar and illegal taper of the president has the pot calling the kettle
black audacity of getting on the soap box and declaring Trump is a liar (the sooner
March comes around and he begins his incarceration isolated from the MSM the
better it will be); Mueller has provided to the court documents demanded by the
judge concerning his FBI interview and supposed “perjury” and a logical conclusion
may be he was set up to get him to flip which he has not in order to get Trump
($25 million and counting and a major distraction to the Trump Agenda to grow
this nation—end the witch-hunt!); Rolling Thunder not the operation of bombing
North Vietnam but the Memorial Day Parade of thousands of motorcycles will end
on Memorial Day, 2019, ending a tradition that has existed since 1988 over
allegations that federal agencies had made the event too difficult and costly
to organize (if only partly true “Shame!”); Emanuel’s announcement that he will
not seek reelection has not curbed the gun violence as through December 14,
2018, 2855 people mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of
whom 480 have died (when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this
the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to
the slaughter of mostly people of color by mostly people of color).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Rod
Stewart, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you do
not obfuscate issues and a relevant quote from Thomas Jefferson on the Bill of
Rights, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any
memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.
You need only contact me for details.
1. Bill of Rights Day—celebrating the ratification of the Bill of Rights the bedrock
to our individual liberties on this day in 1791 with Virginia providing the
last ratification by the states needed.
2. International Tea Day—celebrated in tea producing countries since
2005 to promote awareness of the contribution of tea to our global economy.
3. 1976 Number One Song— the number one song in 1976 on a run of 8 weeks in that
position was “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright)” by Rod Stewart. Here
is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZr6AE-u2UM
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with “n”
to words beginning with “o” is “obfuscate” which means to confuse an
act in which politicians and bureaucrats excel.
5. Downtown Abbey—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1981 if Michelle Dockery,
noted British actress and singer best noted for her leading role in the hit BBC
series Downtown Abbey.
On this day in:
a. 1961 Adolf Eichmann was sentenced to death after being found
guilty of 15 charges including crimes against humanity and the Jewish people on
December 12, 1961; he was executed by hanging on June 12, 1962.
b. 1973 the American Psychiatric Society voted 13-0 to remove
homosexuality from its list of psychiatric disorders.
c. 1978 President Jimmy Carter announced the U.S. would
recognize the People’s Republic of China and sever relations with Taiwan.
d. 2000 the third reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant
was shut down.
e. 2001 the Leaning Tower of Pisa reopened after 11 years of
work to stabilize it and the expenditure of $27 million.
Reflections
on the Bill of Rights that make this country unique and which must be protected
at all times: “A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against
every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on
inference.” Thomas Jefferson
