Ridley's Believe it Or Not June 1 History Stand For Children Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—June 1, 2014:  Slow day for holidays again as we enter the month of June with in Southern California in the morning the June Gloom, but hope you  will enjoy these holidays, along with a fresh baked hazelnut cake, found for today along with the factoids and quote.
            1. National Heimlich Maneuver Day—celebrating since 1972 the maneuver developed by Henry Heimlich that has probably save thousands from choking to death.
            2. Say Something Nice Day—promoting a holiday which by its name should be celebrated and observed every day of the year—would make the world a much better place.
            3. Stand For Children Day—promoting since 1996 improvements in public education for all children.
            4. National Hazel Nut Cake Day---celebrating a tasty cake for those patient enough not to immediately eat these delicious and healthy nuts aka the Alaskanpoet filberts.
On this day in:
            a. 1660 in a low point for religious tolerance, Mary Dyer is hanged for violating the ban on Quakers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
            b. 1967 the Beatles released Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
            c. 2009 General Motors filed for bankruptcy, the fourth largest filing in U.S. history.
Words the devout Pilgrims should have listened as all of us on this planet should listen to: “God has made different religions to suit different aspirants, times, and countries. All doctrines are only so many paths; but a path is by no means God himself. Indeed, one can reach God if one follows any of the paths with whole-hearted devotion...One may eat a cake with icing either straight or sidewise. It will taste sweet either way.” Sri Ramakrishna in the Gospel of Sri Ramasrishna
