Ridley's Believe It Or Not December 2, 2020
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 647,410 new cases (a 1.01% increase compared to a .92% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 64 million to 64,504,610, 18,292,297 of which are active, 46,212,313 of which have been closed with 44,719,232 recoveries (96.77% compared to yesterday’s 96.76%) and 1,493,081 deaths (3.23% compared to yesterday’s 3.24%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentages.
CV USA Cases: New cases 201,150 (a 1.44% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.27% increase) to bring the total over 14 million to 14,134,803 with 5,510,467 active cases of which 25,719 (.47% of active cases), recently on a disturbing upward trend with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23 (25,339 yesterday and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend has shifted and is still continuing to go up, and 8,624,336 closures, 277,423 of which have been deaths (3.22% compared to yesterday’s 3.23%) and 8,346,913 of which have been recoveries (96.78% compared to yesterday’s 96.77%). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and after many months is 01% lower than the world rate and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 836 ranks behind Belgium (1446), Peru (1086), Spain (973), Italy (944), and UK (877 which has now passed us despite leading world in testing), and Argentina (854) and only slightly worse than Mexico (824), recently added to the list France (819), Brazil (816), Chile (805) that we recently passed, Bolivia (763, Ecuador (760) and Sweden (689) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in deaths and we have now conducted 3,701,383 more tests to bring total to 199,906,513 (now at 602,450/M compared to Russia at 528,909/M so Trump was telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis for nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Singapore and UAE) but for the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 647,589/M).
Non CV Case News: Blues seem to be having an increasing spat between the Progressives led by the Squad and Blues like 0bama on the issue of defunding the police; The View continues to enhance its reputation as being ”Clueless” as it featured liberal/leftist commentator Michael Dyson who ramped up the rhetoric on the defund the police by comparing whites who oppose it like the same whites before the Civil War that opposed the abolition of slavery (with blacks dying like flies in Chicago and other urban cities from black on black shootings not rare blue on black shootings, wonder how many blacks fearful of being shot or having their family members shot would agree with him on defunding); the CDC’s advice on the CV pandemic continues to shift and has recommended the quarantine period for someone exposed to CV be shortened to 10 days form 14 and 7 from the date of a negative CV test; anyone who ignores Stacey Abrams plans to have Blues flip the Georgia runoff with a flood of absentee, and mail-in ballots does so at their peril as the Georgia Secretary of State has launched numerous probes of groups including one headed by her for aggressively trying to register ineligible out of state or deceased voters (Abrams represents the epitome of voter suppression by having voter fraud suppress the legal votes of people who oppose her or her candidates); maybe Biden is concerned over the allegations of Hunter’s quid pro quo involvement with China and his family’s business dealing with China might result in close scrutiny of his actions in dealing with China as he has announced he will not immediately remove the tariffs Trump imposed (real test will be to what extent Biden will force China to live up to its agreement to purchase some $200 billion of American goods); on the high cost of higher education front, 1400 students at Columbia University probably upset over high tuition and on line requirements for teaching and maybe the fact that degrees award come not with a guarantee or chance of employment have signed a petition demanding a 10% decrease in tuition and a 10% increase in financial aid (rather that loan forgiveness we should be looking at the costs of tuition, room and board and fees rising at rates in excess of inflation at our universities and colleges); the leftists that rule Feces City are now looking to ban smoking of tobacco in private apartments but not weed.
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of December 1, 2020, the number of shootings increased to 3,918 of whom 666 have died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 362 behind Chicago at 304 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been way more deadly and way more numerous than shootings by police or by random mass shootings which occur far much less.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to “Near You” by Francis Craig and His Orchestra with vocals by David Lamm, the fact that occasionally when you do need to prest to you you are able to find that person and a quote from President Harry S. Truman on how to fight Communism Senator McCarthy railed against, secure in the knowledge that if you want to send a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. 1. Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Day—celebrated since 1933 with the lighting of a large Christmas Tree at the Rockefeller Center in NYC with this there a 75 foot Norwegian Spruce festooned with 50,000 LED lights but strict reduced crowd viewing due to the CV pandemic.
2. International Day for the Abolition of Slavery—created by the UN General Assembly and celebrated since December 2, 1986 to end slavery which often takes the form today of child labor or forced marriages.
3. 1947 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1947 on this day on a run of 12 weeks was “Near You” by Francis Craig and His Orchestra with vocals by Bob Lamm to join 10 other number 1 songs. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbZLpAMnclQ Francis Craig was a song writer, honky tonk piano player and leader of a Nashville dance band and wrote the Vanderbilt University fight song and retired from music in the early 50’s and died on November 19, 1966 at age 66. I couldn’t find much about David Lamm other than he was a trumpeter and a blind singer.
5. Hanoi Rocks DUI Careers Block—celebrating the birth on this day in 1960 of of noted drummer Nicholas Charles Dingley better known to his fans as Razzle but who partying on an American tour was a passenger in a car driven by a drunk fellow band member of Hanoi Rocks who was involved in a crash that killed Razzle at age 24 on December 8, 1984.
On this day in:
a. 1930 President Hoover as the Great Depression was gathering steam proposed in his State of the Union Speech a $150 million public works proposal to stimulate the economy and create jobs which for him was too little and too late to avoid the Roosevelt Landslide in 1932.
b. 1954 the U.S. Senate voted 65-22 to censure Senator Joseph McCarthy for conduct that “tends to bring the Senate into dishonor and disrepute.”
c. 1982 Barney Clark became the first person to be transplanted with a permanent artificial heart which kept him alive albeit chained to a 400 pound compressor until March 23, 1983 when he died.
d. 2001 Enron filed for bankruptcy, one of the largest bankruptcies in the U.S.
e. 2015 Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik, jihadists, attacked a San Bernardino Inland Regional Center to shoot and killed 14 people and wounded 22 before being shot and killed in a shoot out with police as they tried to flee.
Reflections on how to fight the Communism McCarthy so railed against: “[we are] going to continue to fight communism. Now I am going to tell you how we are not going to fight communism. We are not going to transform our fine FBI into a Gestapo secret police. That is what some people would like to do. We are not going to try to control what our people read and say and think. We are not going to turn the United States into a right-wing totalitarian country in order to deal with a left-wing totalitarian threat.”― Harry S. Truman Switch the right wing with the left wing in the last sentence and you describe what we should be doing today although the right wing is free of the totalitarian aspects of the left.
