Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For May 12, 2019 At a commencement
address, Mike Pence slammed the “tolerant left” for its intolerance of
Christianity and warned graduating students they would be attacked by the
secular left which is unprecedented in American history; Pete Buttigieg in Las
Vegas described his feelings on coming out as a gay and blasted social
conservatives for their views on the LBGTQ community; the nickname “Alfred E.
Newman does not fit well with him as it evokes images of Michael Dukakis with
an oversized helmet riding in a M-1 Abrams Tank; in a portent of the future,
AOC at age 29 became the youngest member of the House to wield the Speaker’s gavel
for a brief period of time; San Francisco is reeling under an avalanche of
homeless on the sidewalks, feces and urine on sidewalks and thousands of used hypodermic
needles but NYC whose mayor wants to run for president has subway trains which
are more like smelly and disgusting trash cans on rails; Cory Booker may be out
of touch with Middle America for his leftist views but he is in like Flynn with
40 year old actress Rosario Dawson who posted a nude Instagram photo to
celebrate her 40th birthday; the booming economy means that Mothers
Day will mean average gifts to mom going from $180 last year to $196 this year
for an anticipated aggregate of $25 billion; Houthi rebels in Yemen and the
Saudi government are supposedly withdrawing from three ports to enable
humanitarian aid to reach the country which is in great need for the same; HUD
is proposing to end the magnet of subsidies for illegal aliens by denying
illegals including mixed units in which some are legal residents and others in
the family are not from receiving
subsidies for housing (a cold hearted response or a realization that our
obligations is first and foremost to our own citizens, 100s if thousands of
which are homeless); Chris Darden who had been one of the lawyers prosecuting
OJ Simpson has terminated his representation of the man accused killing rapper Nipsey
Hussle, citing death threats; through May 10, 2019 760 people have
been shot in Chicago of whom 150 have died (what makes the Smollett case so
frustrating is that it forced the city of Chicago to allocate scarce detective
resources when in only 9% of the shootings resulting in murder have a suspect
being charged this year).
1. International Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Day—promoting awareness of a long
term chronic disease marked by fatigue and the inability to perform normal functions
of life due to fatigue.
2. Mothers’ Day—created by Anna Jarvis in 1908
in Grafton, West Virginia to honor her mother who had died in 1905 to honor
motherhood and the contributions of mothers in the development and nurturing of
children which expanded to become a state holiday in all states in the U.S. in
1911 and proclaimed to be a national holiday on the 2nd Sunday in
May by President Wilson in 1914.
3. 2008 Number One Song—the number one song on this day in 2008 on a run of 2 weeks in

This British born singer has become the
first female solo to have 8 singles in the top 5, breaking Olivia Newton John’s
record of 7.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with “o”
to words beginning with “p” is “parturition” which was chosen for Mothers’
Day as it means the act of giving birth.
5. Better To Make Bean Dishes Than To Count Beans—celebrating
the birth on this day in 1964 of noted ex-accountant who has become a top chef
and panelist on The Chew and has her
own line of artisan cookies purchased on line.
