Ridley’s Believe It Or
Not For November 13, 2017 On the National
Anthem kneeling controversy that Roger Goodell has completely mishandled
causing attendance to fall by almost 10% and has the chutzpah to seek a raise of
his salary to $50M with a lifetime use of a private jet, the NFL players
finally showed some class by not kneeling on Sunday as fans continue to show
their disgust by fleeing from the TV sets due to many of these millionaires
taking a knee (many of them stood mute not even mouthing the words but at least
they stood with hand over heart while the many vets and actives on the field or
in the stands stood with crisp salutes; in a quiet move by the Army that should scare the living daylights out of you, the Army in order to meet recruiting goals has dropped restrictions on admitting recruits with drug abuse, mental health or and self cutting issues; shades of the Berlin Wall and an East
German soldier racing across kill zone to West Berlin and freedom as a North
Korean soldier was shot while sprinting across the DMZ to freedom in South
Korea and survived to make it; the obese, short lunatic continues to rant and threaten
us if Trump remains president (when will this idiot realize that we dropped
A-bombs on Japan to avoid 1 M casualties so why would we not repeat the process
in spades to avoid 10+ million from a nuke missile on a major metropolitan area
like San Francisco?); the ex-Intel Bobsey twins of bias and deception to the
American public, Brennan and Clapper, are appearing big time on the Cack News
Network to bash Trump (Clapper is the man who flat out lied to Congress on the
issue of eavesdropping on Americans); the Reds are between a rock and a hard
place on the Alabama Senate race as the sexual predator allegations against him
as a young man continue and his election will be like pouring gasoline on Blues’
war on women fire but not having him as a senator means their majority on tax
reform and cuts becomes a slim one vote; in a life imitates the movie Fargo event, an Australian man helping
his neighbor clean his driveway fell into a woodchipper and was killed;
almost a stuck record or a gruesome remake of Groundhog Day,
Chicago style, the carnage in Chicago continued unabated with total
shootings by mostly minorities against mostly minorities in 2017 through
November 12 increasing to 3236 of whom 562 have died while nothing is
being done to hinder or prevent the killings of minorities by minorities.
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Justin
Timberlake, factoids of interest for this day in history, hoping you don’t have
to listen to the lallations of coworkers, a relevant quote from Captain George
Livingstone on the dangers of the sea, secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet
can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great
price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me
for details.
1. World Kindness
Day—observed
since 1998 to promote the human trait of kindness to others without reference
to gender, race, boundaries or politics (an observance that definitely needs to
be practiced in the Swamp across the aisles).
2. Sadie
Hawkins Day—commemorating the one day of the year guys can really relate to,
especially those of us like this poet that cannot run very fast due to bad
knees if and only if the ladies from Dogpatch are not on the homely side racing
to ask the men out on a date.
3. 2006 Number One Song—the
number one song in 2006 on a run of 3 weeks in that position was “My Love” by Justin
Timberlake. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1TsfShR5ZY
4. Word of
the Day—today’s word of the day is “lallation” which refers to
childish speech which seems like that is all we hear from member so Congress
when they attack members across the aisle.
5. Approaching the Big Game
Rivalry, Good to See a Bear and a Cardinal in Harmony—celebrating
the birth on this day in 1987 of Dana Vollmer, who swam for the California
Bears swim team and is the recipient of 5 Olympic Gold Medals and the wife of
Andy Grant a former swimmer for Stanford University that plays Cal in one the oldest
rivalries in college football this Saturday.
On this day
in:
a. 1982 the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial was
dedicated after a march to the site by thousands of Vietnam War Veterans.
b. 1994 Sweden voted in
favor of joining the European Union.
c. 2001 President Bush signed an executive
order allowing foreigners suspected of or committing attacks against the United
States to be tried before military tribunals for the first time since World War
II.
d. 2002
a twenty-six year old structurally deficient Greek oil tanker, the MV Prestige, suffered a 50 foot crack in
its hull during a monstrous storm and began leaking oil of the coast of Galicia
in northwestern Spain. French, Portuguese and Spanish authorities fearing
widespread oil contamination refused to all the tanker to dock and she split in
half and sank 6 days later some 150 miles off the coast of Spain and continued
to leak 150 tons of oil a day; the total oil released amounted to 63,000 metric
tons, making it worse than the Exxon
Valdez oil spill in Alaska both in terms of quantity and toxicity.
e. 2015
ISIS terrorists, who had previously entered Europe disguised as migrants
fleeing the civil war in Syria, carried out a series of terror attacks in Paris
that killed 130 innocents and wounded 368 innocents, 80 of which critically.
Unfortunately for intel purposes 7 jihadists had their delusional one way
ticket to Paradise punched.
Reflections on the peril of being at sea
during a storm: “In his (Jan de Hartog) books, one gets a visceral sense
of “peril at sea”. Even in the 21st Century peril is
real, especially when the sea is raging. As long as the public demands
commerce and humans venture onto the great ocean trades, it will remain so.”
Captain George Livingstone, member of the Board of Pilots for the Bays of San
Francisco, Pablo and Suisun He is right on point just as the most incorrect and
falsest word in the English language when applied to lakes and oceans during a
storm is “unskinkable” Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you
