July 10, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Silence Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 10, 2017  Yemen is suffering a massive cholera outbreak with over 300,000 cases with 7,000 new cases a day; the former choir boy of the FBI Comey may have violated the law in releasing classified material (speculation that even Meuller will not be able to protect him); Bernie and his wife Jane are in apparent deep trouble over undue influence and overstating donations to obtain a loan for Burlington College to purchase land for expansion of the failed school; Johnny Depp remains in financial meltdown and is locked in litigation with his former management group; on the collusion delusion front, Donald Trump, Jr. is the latest target of the delusional Blues (when will this nonsense and waste end?); more Blue meltdown as Ivanka Trump was blasted for subbing in for her father at the G-20 while he had face to face meetings with Japan; through July 9, 1933 people have been shot in Chicago 333 of whom have died (hopefully the ATF agents Trump has sent in will help put a damper on this carnage.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, music links to the Shaun Cassidy and Arlo Guthrie factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote by Paul Malenson on child sexual abuse, hoping if you avoid anything that is inesulent,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1Silence Daypromoted by the Indian spiritualist Mehar Baba who remained silent from July 10, 1925 till his death in 1969 by foregoing conversation for 24 hours to concentrate on meditation and fasting.
2. International Town Crier Day—created by Scott Fraser in 1996 and celebrated on the second Monday in July to honor accomplishments of town criers in the Middle Ages where most of the population was illiterate and news and information on events were disseminated by town criers.
3. 1977 Number One Song—the number one song in 1977 on a run of 1 week in that position was “Da Doo Ron Ron” by Shaun Cassidy. Here is a performance by him of the song: https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=mcafee&p=shaun+cassiday+da+doo+ron+ron#id=1&vid=23ceb0c50043f5dcfd1b9e4dc89106e7&action=click
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “inesulent” which means inedible, a word describing toadstools to a tee.
5. City of the Big Easy—celebrating the birth on this day in 1947 of Arlo Guthrie, noted singer and guitarist with many hits including one of my favorites “The City of New Orleans,” one of my favorite trains. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMS_ykiLiQ
On this day in:
a. 1938 Howard Hughes set a new record by completing an around the world flight in 91 hours.
b. 1942 an American pilot spotted an downed intact Zero on Akutan Island in the Aleutians which enabled the Navy to recover it  and learn of its flight characteristics and strengths and weaknesses.
c. 1962 Telstar, the world’s first communications satellite was put into orbit.
d. 1998 the Dallas Diocese of the Catholic Church agreed to pay $23.4 million to 9 former altar boys who had filed suit for sexual abuse by a former priest.
e. 2007 Erden Eruc, left Bodega Bay to commence the first human powered circumnavigation of the world, which he completed on  July 21, 2012 after logging 41,196 miles.
Reflections on the media and clergy abuse: “When will the media acknowledge that the sexual abuse of children is not a ‘Catholic problem’? The fact is that the media are not so much concerned with the welfare of children as they are with unfairly portraying the abuse of children as a ‘crisis in the Church.’” Paul Anthony Melanson, noted Catholic lay philosopher. Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
