Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For December 6, 2016 The body count at the fire at the warehouse in Oakland has risen to 36 and only a small corner under rubble remains to be searched; China, the Obama administration and the mainstream media are in a colossal snit fit over Trump’s taking a congratulatory phone call from the President of Taiwan; if the idiocy of the Jill Stein recount effort is not bad enough, the news that electors from two Blue pothead states Washington and Colorado are working tooth and nail to try to convince other electors to shift their vote from Trump should cause one’s blood to boil (Chris Suprun, an elector from Texas which Trump won easily has succumbed to their efforts and announced he will not vote for Trump. Perhaps it would be a great idea for Americans on both sides of the aisle to tweet him in protest  @theChrissuprun); Trump wants the $4 billion contract with Boeing for two new Air Force Ones to be cancelled due to cost; in a time of belt tightening for the military, the Pentagon has buried an internal study revealing $128 billion in waste (if any agency needs a warrior like General “Mad Dog” Mattis to wage war on waste and abuse, it is the Pentagon and if Obama were smart he would replace Ash Carter and nominate Mad Dog today; Merkel who opened the floodgates to Syrian refugees into Germany and now in the political fight of her life has proposed a ban on burkas instead of banning refugees from Syria and other hot beds of terror and starting to deport those already in Germany; in a chilling reminder that none of us are always safe, the wife of the Republican governor-elect of Missouri was robbed in St. Louis at gun point by three teenagers who must be products of the St. Louis public schools as they took her computer and cell phone and were quickly tracked down by police due to their taking of the cell phone; in another chilling reminder that terrorism is alive and well, a credible threat has been made on the Los Angeles metro rail network at Universal City.

1. National Miners’ Day—created by Congressional resolution in 2009 to honor the contributions of miners, past and present, to our economy (the leaders of the EPA who have made miners an endangered species with their inane regulations should be  packing their bags as on January 20 they will all be out of jobs).

2. National Pawnbrokers Day—celebrated on the St. Nicholas Day as he was the patron saint of pawnbrokers; this ancient profession was practiced by the Chinese some 3,000 years ago and given the regulatory stranglehold on banks due to Dodd-Franks, pawnbrokers are often the lenders of last resort even though they are too often the buyers of goods stolen by addicts to pay for their habits.

5. She’s Mia not MIA—celebrating the birth on this day in 1975 of Mia Love, the first African-American woman to be elected as a Republican to Congress; she represents Utah and was an early Trump supporter.                                   

On this day in:                                                                                   

a. 1865 the Thirteenth Amendment banning slavery was ratified.

b. 1877 the first edition of The Washington Post was published; still being published today although it has become more liberal and slanted in favor of Blue positions.       

c. 1904 Theodore Roosevelt issued his corollary to the Monroe Doctrine indicating that the U.S. would intervene militarily in Latin America if local governments proved to be incapable or unstable which we unfortunately did many times in the 20^th Century.

d. 1957 in a launch televised live on national TV, a Vanguard 1 rocket carrying America’s first satellite exploded on liftoff after reaching a height of four feet leaving Sputnik I as the only manmade object orbiting the Earth. 

e. 2015 Venezuela parliamentary elections were held and the United Socialist Party lost its majority for the first time in 17 years as the country under socialism had entered its economic death spiral.

Reflections on the lot of miners on this Miners’ Day that represent probably one of the few true statements issued in the campaign that has just ended: “I'm the only candidate which has a policy about how to bring economic opportunity - using clean, renewable energy as the key - into coal country, because we're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.” Hillary Clinton Fortunately the miners were listening and joined en mass with millions of others to put her out of business permanently hopefully.
