 Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For April 23, 2016 Unfortunately still 272 days to go in President Obama’s   pathetic lame duck term; world still shaken by the death of Prince and awaiting the autopsy results on Prince’s death; HRC refuses to release transcripts of her speeches that generated millions of dollars of fees most likely for access and future favors. This woman with her husband is the epitome of quid pro quo corruption and one would hope the FBI probe will recommend her indictment and put this nation out of its misery of having a potential felon running for president. 1. World Book  Day—first celebrated in 1995 on  this date which is the date of death  of William Shakespeare and the date of the death of Miguel Cervantes; not that you need an excuse but this would be a great Saturday to either check out a book at your library or buy one. Reading is the great natural high. 

2. Lovers’ Day—another observance that should be observed daily if fortunate enough to be in love with another soul mate. Not that you need an excuse but this would be a great day to buy some roses or forget me nots (state flower of Alaska) for your lover.

5. Sicko Day—bemoaning the birthday on this day in 1954 of a very obese Michael Moore, a pathetic left wing ideologue director who produced such losers as Sicko that fortunately few people are willing to spend money to see his films.  

On this day in:

a. 1635 the first public school in the colonies, the Boston Latin School, was opened in Boston.                                                                

b. 1910 President Theodore Roosevelt delivered his iconic speech “The Man In the Arena”  “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.” Great words and in his case backed by action.                               

c. 1968 students protesting the Vietnam War take over the administration building at Columbia University and shut down the university.      

d. 1985 in a classic not listening to your customers’ preferences, Coca-Cola unveiled its new formula for Coke which lasted only three months before it was removed and replaced with the original recipe.
