       1. Memorial Day —commemorating and honoring since 1868, the thousands of men and women who have served this country and made the ultimate sacrifice that transcends the beginning of summer barbecues and parties.

       2. National Missing Children’s Day—observed since proclaimed since 1983 by President Reagan to create awareness over the problems of abducted children—a parent’s worst nightmare.

        3. 2007 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 2007 on a brief one week run Buy U a Drank by T-Pain featuring Yung Joc, an American rapper  who started performing in 2004 and still is creating rap today.        4. National Wine Day—a great way to upscale the barbecue with friends and family as opposed to beer and burgers.                                                           

1.          5. TM Calms the Soul Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1803 of Ralph Waldo Emerson, noted 19th Century American philosopher and founder of transcendental meditation.

2.           6.  Nerd/Geek Pride Day—celebrating the accomplishments of all those nerds and geeks we used ridicule in high school but who are now indispensable individuals in our highly complex computer age.

3.   On this day in:                                                            

        a. 1925 John Scopes was indicted for teaching Darwin’s Theory of Evolution in a Tennessee classroom.

        b. 1953 the U.S. Army in Nevada conducted its firat and only test of a nuclear artillery round.

        c. 1953 the nation’s first public television KUHT began broadcasting from the University of Houston campus.

        d. 1961 President Kennedy announced before a joint session of Congress his goal of putting a man on the moon and bringing him back before the end of the decade.                        

e.  1977 the movie Star Wars was released in theaters inspiring Geek Pride Day..
