December 3, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not International Day for Persons with Disabilities

Ridley's Believe It Or Not December 3, 2020

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 682,373 new cases (a 1.06%  increase compared to a 1.01% increase yesterday) to bring the total over  65 million to 65,186,983, 18,502,461 of  which  are active, 46,684,522 of which have been closed with 45,178,720  recoveries (96.77% compared to  yesterday’s 96.77%) and 1,505,802 deaths (3.23% compared to yesterday’s 3.23%) to continue the trend of increased recovery  percentages and decreased death percentages.
CV USA Cases: New cases 229,106 (a 1.62% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.44% increase) to bring the  total over 14 million  to  14,363,909 with 5,610,826 active cases of which 26,181 (.47% of active cases), recently on a disturbing upward trend with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23  (25,719 yesterday and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend has shifted and is still continuing to go up, and 8,753,083 closures, 280,581 of which have been deaths (3.21% compared to yesterday’s 3.22%) and 8,472,502 of which have been recoveries (96.79% compared to yesterday’s 96.78%). Our death rate percentage continues to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and after many months is .02% lower than the world rate and on a deaths per million population measurement on a steady climb to 846 ranks behind Belgium (1456), Peru (1088),  Spain (979), Italy (961), and UK (884 which has now passed us despite leading world in testing), and Argentina (863)  and only slightly worse than  Mexico (831), recently added to the list France (824), Brazil (819), Chile (805) that we recently passed,  Bolivia (764, Ecuador (764) and Sweden (692) that never closed its economy down like we did but has recently been experiencing a rapid rise in deaths and we have now conducted 1.856.952 more tests to bring total to 201,763,463  (now at 608,054/M compared to Russia at 532,292/M so Trump was telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis for nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark,  Israel, Singapore and UAE) but for the U.K. which remains off the testing charts with tests at 652,820/M).
Non CV Case News: The L.A. County Sheriff has politely told Newsom to pound sand as his department will not enforce his stay at home order (when will elites get it through their thick skulls the when they flaunt the restrictions they want to impose on us mere mortals that the mortals will rise up and ignore them and hopefull at the first chance recall or vote them out of office; Americans need to hold on to their wallets as Biden is pledging to raise individual and corporate tax rates to decades old highs; 4 progressive groups, including one founded by Stacey Abrams, are being investigated by Georgia’s Secretary of State for voter fraud (why Georgia to prevent this abuse and give comfort to voters that fear their vote will be suppressed by illegal ballots does not close registration as of the election day in November is mind boggling); Lou Holz, former coach of Notre Dame Football has been honored with a Medal of Freedom; Mayor Garcetti has issued a stay at home order for all L.A. residents after 6,000 new CV cases have been reported; Governor Newsom whose performance as governor can best be described as gruesome has had his hand slapped by the California Supreme Court, overturning his rules curtailing religious services; on the defund the police front, Blue Representative Sean Patrick Maloney from New York’s lower Hudson Valley has been elected by his fellow Blues with the unenviable task of trying to preserve his party’s slim majority in the House in the 2022 midterms (with Progressives and Blues at each other’s throats he looks like he will be trying to paddle upstream without a paddle); GOP lawmakers based on allegations of massive fraud in the Pennsylvania election have gone to SCOTUS to block confirmation of the electors in that state;  in California’s one party state we have had to endure Newsom’s questionable China CV mask deal and now GOP Representatives in Washington are demanding answers to California’s Secretary of State Padilla award a $35 million contract to a consulting firm linked to advising Biden (coincidence that Padilla may be the front runner in the race to nominate a person to replace Senator Harris); Big Freddo’s joy over the announcement of his book on handling the CV pandemic and his ill deserved Emmy had a bit of dampening as New York announced almost 2,000 New Yorkers had succumbed to CV since his book was announced in October.            Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of December 2,  2020,  the number of shootings increased to 3,927 of whom  668 have died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is still362 behind Chicago at 306 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which  have  been way  more  deadly and way more numerous than shootings by  police or by random mass shootings which occur far much less.)

        1. International Day for Persons with Disabilities—created by the United Nations in 1992 to create awareness of the issues facing persons with disabilities, to promote solutions to making it easier for persons with disabilities to contribute to society and to acknowledge contributions made by persons with disabilities.
         2. National Roof Over Your Head Day—not sure who or when the day was created or celebrated but definitely a day to provoke gratitude that you have a roof and a safe and secure shelter and to encourage given the amount of homeless we have in this country to support programs to reduce homelessness on our streets, sidewalks and parks.
        3. 1948 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1948 on this day on a run of 9     weeks was “Buttons and Bows” by Dinah Shore to join 8 other number 1 songs. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfW9-0EzYxA  After failing to land with one of the big bands, Shore became one of the first female singers to launch a successful career as a solo singer and became one of the top charted singers in the 40’s and 50’s and was active on the radio and on television with her own shows one of which was The Dinah Shore Show.  Active almost to the very end, Shore died of ovarian cancer on February 24, 1994 5 days before her 78th birthday.

          4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “prestigiator” which means a conjurer which describe the people we need in Congress to seek bipartisanship to solve our problems.                                   5. Sweeping to Success—celebrating the birth on this day in 1863 of Gussie Davis who, after being turned down for admission at the Nelson Musical College because he was black, worked there as a janitor in exchange for private lessons to sell his first song in 1880 and go to become the first successful black songwriter and number one song writer at Tin Pan Alley with a far too short career that ended with his death on October 18, 1999 after having created over 300 songs.

          On this day in:

          a. 1929 newly elected President Hoover delivered to Congress his State of the Union Message in written form as opposed to delivering it in a speech.

          b. 1982 a soil sample was taken from Times Beach, Missouri that revealed levels of dioxin 300 times higher than allowed by the EPA.

           c. 1992 an engineer from the Sema Group sent the world’s first text message via the Vodafone network to a colleague, marking the first step in the loss of teens’ and subteens’ ability to converse in person or by telephone.

          d. 1997 in Ottawa, Canada, 121 nations, other than the Peoples Republic of China, the Soviet Union and the United States, signed the Ottawa Treaty banning the manufacture and deployment of anti-personnel mines.

          e. 2005 XCOR a private company pursuing suborbital rocket flights put to rest the moniker “snail mail” for the U.S. Mail by delivering U.S. Mail from Mohave to California City in a rocket powered manned plane in 9 minutes; unfortunately the company ran out of money and closed its doors and filed for bankruptcy in November , 2017.

Reflections on the legacy of landmines: “"When a war is over I think it's a cowardly thing to leave the war behind you in minefields that hit women and children and the most vulnerable. Imagine the war is finished and you go to work and there are snipers shooting at you. Imagine taking your kids to the beach and you find that the beach is blowing up beneath you. Like there's nowhere safe.” Paul McCartney
