May 23, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not World Turtle Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For May 23, 2020 The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 124,615  new cases  (a 2.37%  increase compared to a 4.29% increase yesterday) to bring the total to 5,386,679   cases, 2,808,334 of  which  are active, 2,578,365 of which have been closed with 2,234,965 recoveries (86.68% compared to  yesterday’s 86.29%) and 343,380  deaths (13.32% compared to yesterday’s 13.72%); in the U.S. which has the dubious distinction of leading the world in total cases with new cases of  30,893 have brought total cases to 1,683,522 (a 1.89% increase compared to yesterday’s 3.33% increase)  with 1,119,998 active cases and 543,524  closures, 98,588  of which have been deaths (18.14% compared to  yesterday’s 20.14%) and 444,936 of which  have been recoveries (81,87%  compared to yesterday’s 79.86%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die) while total testing has increased to 14,357,969 on the CV front Cuomo is doing what the left does best and always blame Trump for the 4,300 deaths in nursing homes due to his misguided inane order transferring positive CV patients from hospitals to nursing homes to make room for CV patients while our hospital ship and the hospital beds created at the Javits Center remained almost empty; from the time the CV appeared on our shores the alarms have been raised that people over 65 are vulnerable and as our deaths approach 100,000 the sobering fact for which many of our governors should share responsibility is that about a third of all deaths have occurred in nursing homes including the 100 year old widow of John Glenn and the 88 year old former head of the FDA and Stanford University; if you are one of those asymptomatic CV victims who unknowingly infect hard to condemn but a hairstylist in  a Great Clips in Springfield, Missouri who was displaying coronavirus infection symptoms but  went to work and exposed 91 people to possible infection merits condemnation; the fallout from Biden’s aping Madeline’s remark that “there is a special place in Hell reserved for women who don’t vote for Hillary” that “you ain’t black enough if you vote for Trump,” has created a firestorm of controversy quickly capitalized by a new anti-Biden video (hard not to feel pity for a man whose mental state is dissolving before your very eyes); Dr. Fauci, isolated from the pain millions are feeling by being out of work and not receiving unemployment compensation checks because of the collapse of state unemployment compensation systems is finally coming to grips with the realization that a prolonged shutdown will have catastrophic effect on our economy and society; as we approach Memorial Day, please enjoy this video tribute made by a 17 year old Texas high school student Eddie Fisher on Major Eugene Beresik who died in Vietnam after being downed by  North Vietnamese AAA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtUSUOrzsI4; in Chicago, as of May 22, 2020, 995 shootings of whom 179 have died (so much for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths is still 66 behind Chicago with 113 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Childish Gambino, the fact that you do not suffer from ozostomia and a quote from Heinz Guderian on Himmler’s cowardice in committing suicide, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. World Turtle Day—created by American Tortoise Rescue and one of this poet’s favorite holidays due to the Kemp Ridley Turtle and the Olive Ridley Turtle to promote efforts to preserve turtle habitats and prevent their use as a food source.
2. International Day to End Obstetrics Fistula—created to promote awareness of and research to find treatment for obstetrics fistula which is an unusually large opening between a woman’s genital tract and urinary tract and rectum, a condition that affects some 2 million women in Africa and is a majority contributor of maternal death during childbirth.
3. 2018 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 2018 on this day on a run of 2 weeks in the position was “This Is America” by Childish Gambino. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYOjWnS4cMY This multi faceted talent whose real name is Donald McKinley Glover, Jr. is doing well although his Blue candidate Andrew Yang had to drop out of the race for president.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “ozostomia” which means bad breath which is a stigma all want to avoid even when practicing social distancing of 6 feet.
5. How Not to Travel for a Traveling Man--celebrating the birth on this day in 1979 of Rasual Butler who played college basketball for LaSalle and spent 14 years in the NBA with 8 different teams but had his shot in life blocked in Studio City on January 31, 2018 when he and his girl friend died instantly when his Range Rover he was speeding on a public street crashed into mall parking lot; the autopsy showed traces of meth, oxycodone, and marijuana and a BAT of .118%.
 On this day in:
 a. 1915 the New York City Public Library was dedicated.
 b. 1945 Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS, escaped the shame of the Nuremburg Trials and the for certain hangman’s noose by biting on a potassium cyanide pill while being examined by a British Army doctor shortly after being captured and dying within 15 minutes.
 c. 1949 the Western Occupying Powers approved the Basic Law creating the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany).
 d. 1995 the first version of the Java programming language is released to the public.
 e. 2013 the Northernmost lane of the 4 lane Skagit River bridge collapsed after its support was hit by an overloaded semi, sending 2 cars into the river but fortunately with no casualties.
Reflections on Heinrich Himmler’s cowardice: “Himmler ended his life by committing suicide though he had previously consistently condemned such an action, which he had claimed to regard as contemptible and which he had forbidden the SS. He therefore escaped his judges here below and left behind less responsible men to carry on the burden of his great guilt.” Heinz Guderian, Panzer Leader
