May 22, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Maritime Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For May 22, 2020 The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 216,607  new cases  (a 4.29  increase compared to a 2.07% increase yesterday) to bring the total to 5,262,064   cases, 2,799,203 of  which  are active, 2,462,861 of which have been closed with 2,125,053 recoveries (86.28% compared to  yesterday’s 85.93%) and 337,808  deaths (13.72% compared to yesterday’s 14.07%); in the U.S. which has the dubious distinction of leading the world in total cases with new cases of  52,644 have brought total cases to 1,632,629 (a 3.33% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.43% increase)  with 1,150,450  active cases and 482,172  closures, 97,102  of which have been deaths (20.14% compared to  yesterday’s 20.48%) and 385,070 of which  have been recoveries (79.86%  compared to yesterday’s 79.52%) while total testing has increased to 14,101,784; on the economic coronavirus front, Hertz, saddled with $18 billion in debt and 700,000 vehicles that have been largely parked and not rented out, has filed for Chapter XI Bankruptcy; Biden’s handlers engaged in 24/7 attempt to control Biden’s gaffes must be tearing their hair out over his comments 17 minutes into a radio interview with Charlamagne tha Great that if a black had difficulty to determining who to vote for that they “weren’t black” enough which brought instant condemnation from successful blacks and former members of the Sanders campaign (almost a repeat of Madeline Albright’s special place in hell for women who would not vote for HRC);not sure where Trump gets his authority to force governors to reopen places of worship other than the bully pulpit but his is demanding houses of worship be reopened; Barr has announced his support to curb Illinois’s stay and home orders and Christopher Wray must be reading the tea leaves on how upset Reds are over the FBI’s handling the Flynn investigation as he announced a probe of the FBI’s investigation of General Flynn; while Chicago is fining churches that violate the governor’s orders banning church services, 1,000 pastors in California have indicated they will ignore Governor Newsom’s edict on services and hold them in defiance; states like California whose Unemployment Offices have literally crashed and burned with jobless filing unemployment claims were hit with another 2.9 million claimants to 39.4 million jobless, millions of who are totally frustrated that they and not getting any unemployment compensation checks; Cuomo’s hands that reek big time with the blood of nursing home patients dying like flies during the pandemic due to his earlier policy requiring nursing homes not equipped to protect patients to accept patients who are positive and a recent report that under his leadership some 4,300 seniors were removed from hospitals and into nursing homes to make room for coronavirus patients (Cuomo has been clueless on this and seems that his attitude is “we all have to die some day” and the elderly are expendable);; in Chicago, as of May 21, 2020, 985 shootings of whom 177 have died but none yesterday (so much for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths is now 66 behind Chicago with 111 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?).

1. World Goth Day—created by two Goth DJs in 2007 by Cruel Britannia and Martin Oldegoth as a day to celebrate the Goth culture in which adherents find beauty in the dark side of life be it in music or art.
2. National Maritime Daycelebrating the achievements or our maritime industry and its contribution to our welfare and culture and created by the U.S. Congress on May 20, 1933. May 22 was chosen as the day to celebrate the observance due to the fact it is the anniversary in 1819 of the transatlantic voyage of the SS Georgia which was the first made entirely under steam power.
3. 2016 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 2016 on this day on a run of 1 week the position was “I’m the One” by DJ Khaled featuring Quavo, Lil’ Wayne, Chance the Rapper and Justin Bieber. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weeI1G46q0o. Khaled is doing well as a DJ, songwriter and producer and must be a smart man as he purchased a waterfront home in Miami in 2018 for $25 million dollars and thereby has escaped California’s excessive taxes.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “oxymoron” which means a figure of speech that has contradictory terms.
5. Money to Burn--celebrating the birth on this day in 1984 of Dustin Moskovitz, one of the co-founders of Facebook who left the company in 2008 to co-found Apana. His net worth is somewhere between $12 and $14 billion but has had better luck starting up companies that backing politicians having dropped $20 million in Hillary’s failed campaign in 2016.
 On this day in:
 a. 1864 Lyndon Johnson launched The Great Society which might be better called The Great Money Pit.
 b. 1998 a federal judge ruled that Secret Service Agents guarding President Clinton could be compelled to testify in the Monica Lewinsky scandal which probably explains why when Clinton flew on the “Lolita Express” to Epstein’s private island, he often flew without his Secret Service detachment.
 c. 2002 in a better late than never moment a jury convicted former Klu Klux Klan member Bobby Frank Cherry of the 1963 bombing murder of 4 young black girls at the 18th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama; Cherry was sentenced to life imprisonment and rotted in his cell until dying on November 18, 2004 at the age of 74.
 d. 2017 Salman Ramadan Abedi, a 22-year-old islamist of  of Libyan ancestry detonated a suicide bomb as spectators were leaving an Ariana Grande at the Manchester Arena, killing 23 and wounding 139 others.
 e. 2017 President Trump visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and became the first sitting president to visit the Western Wall.
Reflections on The Great Society: “I believe we can continue the Great Society while we fight in Vietnam.” Lyndon Baines Johnson. Sady he was as wrong as wrong could be and The Great Society went down in the ashes of Tet.
