Ridley's Believe It Or Not For January 9, 2016 National Word Nerd Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 9, 2016, 377 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. Trust you survived the volatility of the market yesterday and that your Saturday  is off to a great start since the markets are closed with all or a majority of your  New Year’s Resolutions still being observed; as always, I hope you enjoy Saturday’s holidays and observances, a music link to Phil Collins; factoids of interest, a relevant column from Dear Abbey, looking forward to enjoying some apricot products, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Word Nerd Day—celebrating all those logophiles and editors, closet or otherwise, who cannot help themselves in correcting punctuation and spelling mistakes; reminds me of my father who always intoned “Speak and write the King’s English.”
2. World Choreographers Day—celebrating the art of dance that brings great joy to the audience watching plays and movies with great choreographic moments and observed on the day of the birthday in 1904 of George Balanchine in St. Petersburg, one of the great choreographic masters of all time.
3. 1990 Number One S ong—celebrating the number one song in 1990 on a run of four weeks in that position Another Day In Paradise by Phil Collins. Here is a link to Phil Collins performing Another Day In Paradise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt2mbGP6vFI
4. National Apricot Day—celebrating another great fruit but if to enjoy fresh it had to have come from the Southern Hemisphere but still available as dried or in jams.
5. Learn From Your Mother—celebrating the birthday on this day of Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William who must have learned the qualities of what a great women needs to have after observing his mother Princess Diana and hopefully not picked up any of the pathetic characteristics of his father.
On this day in:
a.1349 in a blow to tolerance the Jews of Basel, Switzerland believed by the residents to be the cause of the Black Plague were rounded up and incinerated.
b.1839 the Daguerreotype photo process was introduced at the French Academy of Sciences.
c.1923 Juan de la Cierva made the first autogyro flight.
d.1956 Abigal Van Buren’s column Dear Abbey debuted.
e.2007 Steve Jobs announced the introduction of the iPhone.
Reflections by a classic Dear Abbey zinger response: “Dear Abbey: Our son married a girl when he was in the service. They were married in February and she had an 8 1/2-pound baby girl in August. She said the baby was premature. Can an 8 1/2-pound baby be this premature? Wanting to Know"
Dear Wanting: The baby was on time. The wedding was late. Forget it.”
