Ridley’s Believe It Or Not August 11, 2021
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues on an increasing basis with cases now over 205 million at 205,427,507 cases (204,535,846 yesterday); 16,662,952 of which are active, 188,764,555 closed with 184,427,948 recoveries (97.70% and 97.70% yesterday, and 4,336,607 deaths (2.30% and 2.30% yesterday) to continue the slow trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentage with some plateaus, dips, and rises but which has been stuck on the same death rate for many weeks until the drop to 2.30% from 2.31% on the 5th.
CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 37 million at 37,026,083 (36,814,480 yesterday) with 6,390.383 active cases of which 16,339 are serious or critical, (16,873 yesterday and 8,599 on 3/25/2021) (now on a serious upswing due to Delta virus up to .264 % of active cases and now a steady increase in the number of serious or critical cases to decrease the reduction from the 29,271 peak on 12/31/2020 to 13,216, 30,635,700 closed, with 636,602 deaths (2.07% and 2.07% yesterday) and with 30,000,098 recoveries (97.93% and 97.92% yesterday). Our death rate percentage is no longer stuck at 2.08% since July 12, 2021 and now .23% lower than the world’s death rate.
Standing: On a deaths per million population measure on a steady but slow climb to 1908 the U.S. ranks behind Peru (5887) the new number 1 which has had a quantum leap in deaths previously unmatched which was a change in the classification to give Peru the a new method of reporting to have a fatality rate of 9.31% of total cases now; Hungary the new number 2 has had a huge continuing surge in deaths with the increase now slowing down and improving slightly to 3.86% of its closed cases have died (3118), aping Hungary in terms of increase in deaths Bulgaria (2657), Brazil (2642) which has been hit with a rapid rise in deaths and cases and passed us and Italy, Columbia newly added to the list (2388), Argentina (2374), Belgium (2170), Italy (2126), Poland (1992), and the UK (1913) which had passed us despite leading world in testing and now has new deaths barely increasing), and slightly better than Mexico (1880), Chile (1873), Romania (1798), Ecuador newly added to list (1772), Spain (1760), Portugal (1722), France (1718), Bolivia (1522), Sweden (1438) that never closed its economy down like we did, and Switzerland (1251).
Tests: We have now conducted 551,021,111 tests (1,653,540/M) just passed by France at 1,693,717 who is now 1st on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains as king of the mountain with respect to tests at 3,714,734/M.
CV Open Gate: Lost in the pronouncements by Biden and his lackeys that there is no crisis of illegals surging across the border is that fact that COVID-19 is alive and well and spreading in the Northern Triangle and Mexico which has been passed by Argentina and newly added Columbia to move down to 12th on my list of deaths from the pandemic at 1880/M with a fatality rate of 9.54% of closed cases and the 3 countries in the Northern Triangle in terms of active cases and deaths per million are as follows even though the data may be suspect as underreported (regardless of number we need no more cases):
Guatemala: Active Cases: 38,687 Deaths/M 596
Honduras: Active Cases: 198,885 Deaths/M 821
El Salvador: Active cases: 9.424 Deaths/M 421
US Vaccinations: As of 8/10/2021 352.6 million doses, up from .716 million per day to .739 million per day (down to 6 months to go for 75% of population vaccinated) and in California 88,607 per day (88,495 yesterday) which means if the rate does not increase it will take us still some 4 months to have 75% of the population of California vaccinated which many believe is necessary to develop herd immunity (other than Flip Flop Fauci who may believe that 90% is required). In California 46,003,535 total doses have been given (89.0% of doses received to exceed the U.S. average of 86.5%), but even with the pressure of a recall to be scheduled this fall which hopefully end Newsom’s term, California has moved down from 14th tied with Utah to 19th of the 50 states in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the states and at 53.7% of its population fully vaccinated compared to the U.S. average of 50.3% has not moved from 17th among the 50 states. A long way to go still to get herd immunity in terms of getting vaccines received into arms and the percentage of the population fully vaccinated compared to other states which means a great reason to recall this inept and hypocritical governor.
Non CV News: Andrew Cuomo finally came to his senses and resigned today after his lawyer extensively attacked the AG’s Report’s bias and selective inclusion of witnesses’ testimony; after ignoring SCUTUS’s ruling that he did not have authority to extend the eviction moratorium, the CDC ordered an extension through October in areas of high COVID-19 infection (let’s hope that SCOTUS does not take kindly to having the Executive Branch thumb its nose at); Abbot’s threat to arrest fleeing Texas Representatives was put on hold when a Democrat district judge issued a TRO banning any arrests which TRO was lifted by the Texas Supreme Court and the Speaker of the Texas has executed arrest warrants for these scofflaws; Gary Maynard who taught courses at Santa Clara University and Sonoma State University has been arrested for setting an arson fire near the Dixie Fire that is still burning massive amounts of timber, totally out of control; Oregon will require state employees of the Executive Branch to be vaccinated will again require masks for indoor events; as real concerns are being raised over the runaway deficit caused by Biden’s tax and spending increases with the $1.1 trillion “infrastructure” bill that 19 Reds were foolish enough to vote for, paving the way for the $3.5 trillion social infrastructure bill that with an open border will also create pathways to citizenship for illegals already here, leave it to the political cartoonist to graphically displays the disastrous results of the spending of trillions on the lives of our children and grandchildren:
1. Annual Medical Checkup Day—not sure who created this or when but an annual physical checkup can be a life saver especially as on get older; now that we are returning to some sense of normalcy out of ther pandemic which had many people postponing medical procedures out of fear of being infected it would be a great idea to schedule a physical with your family doctor.
2. Ingersoll Day—celebrating the birth of Robert G. Ingersoll on this day in 1833 known as the “Great Agnostic” who was one of the most noted free thinkers of the 19th Century who advocated that science and reason should shape human beliefs not religion.
3. 1984 Number 1 Song USA—the number 1 song in 1984 on this day was “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker, Jr. on a run of 3 weeks in that position to join 19 other songs that achieved number 1 status and join 14 other acts that achieved their first number 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. Here is a video recording of “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker, Jr.: Parker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe93CLbHjxQ Parker is one of the few black entertainers to enter the world of music videos and “Ghostbuster” which he wrote for the movie of the same name was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
4. Word of the Day—the word of the day is “scotoma” which means a headache that results in dizziness and loss of vision which probably describes to a tee the experience watching a mentally fading Biden trying to speak without his flash cards or teleprompter.
5. Hard to Out Run Death in the Air—celebrating the birth on this day in 1943 of noted Olympic athlete Charley Paddock who competed in 3 Olympics and was portrayed in the movie Chariots of Fire and was the first sprinter to be label “The Fastest Man Alive” but sadly was slowed down permanently by the risks of flying in Alaska when his plane carrying him and Major General Upshur crashed near Sitka, Alaska on July 21, 1943 at age 42. On this day in:
a. 1934 the first prisoners arrived at the federal prison on Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay.
b. 1965 the Watts Riots commenced after police tried to arrest a driver who had failed his DUI field sobriety test and when peace had been restored with the aid of 14,000 California National Guard summoned to Los Angeles, 34 people had been killed, 1,032 had been injured, 3428 arrested and $40 million in damages suffered.
d. 2000 19 year old Jonathan tried to storm the cockpit on PSA Flight 1753 only to be restrained by 6-8 passengers who in the process caused his death by asphyxiation.
e. 2003 NATO took over the thankless task of command of the peace keeping force in Afghanistan, representing the first deployment of troops outside of Europe since its formation.
Reflections on Watts Riots: " We cannot, and we must not, in one breath demand laws to protect the rights of all of our citizens, and then turn our back, or wink, or in the next breath allow laws to be broken that protect the safety of our citizens. There just must never come the hour in this Republic when any citizen, whoever he is, can ever ignore the law or break the law with impunity.
And so long as I am your President I intend to preserve the rights of all of our citizens, and I intend to enforce the laws that protect all of our citizens— without regard to race, religion, region, or without fear or favor.
A rioter with a Molotov cocktail in his hands is not fighting for civil rights any more than a Klansman with a sheet on his back and a mask on his face. They are both more or less what the law declares them: lawbreakers, destroyers of constitutional rights and liberties, and ultimately destroyers of a free America. They must be exposed and they must be dealt with.” President Lyndon B. Johnson
