January 8, 2019 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Poetry At Work

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 8, 2019 The President will be addressing the nation from the Oval Office on the need to construct a wall to aid in the securing of the border which the Blues refuse to consider as their tyrant leader Pelosi considers a wall immoral (what is immoral is the killing of residents by illegals and the opioids pouring across our border); on the government shutdown front a federal workers’ union has filed a lawsuit over the shutdown; the DHS has released statistics showing a dramatic increase in illegal families, unaccompanied minors and illegal deadly drugs like meth, fentanyl and heroin crossing the border in 2018 (statistics that without any basis Pelosi delusionally dismissed); the wasteful witch-hunt is still being funded during the partial shutdown while the DOJ is facing severe funding issues; Mika whose anti-Trump bias and lack of objectivity is about as welcome as a Zika bite is demanding that her network MSNBC (mainly slanted news biased cack) not air Trump’s prime time speech; Gavin Newsom’s swearing in ceremony was interrupted by a protestor claiming blood was on his hands for sanctuary cities causing the death of officer Singh (Newsom in his speech promised California would be on the cutting edge of the resistance to Trump and be progressive representing the people which as the death of Singh shows means illegals above citizens and legal immigrants); Broward County Sheriff Israel who was roundly criticized for his department’s response to the Parkland school shooting and refused to accept responsibility has been suspended by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis; on the sports front, Clemson finished its season undefeated by routing Alabama 44-16 to claim the National Championship; my daily source for murders and shootings has stopped publishing so this feature will no longer appear in Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Phil Collins, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that today would be a great day to create an octastich and a relevant  quote from Sidney Harman on the value of poets as managers, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.

3. 1990 Number One Song— the number one song on this day in 1990 on a run of 4 weeks in that position was “Another Day In Paradise” by Phil Collins. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt2mbGP6vFI
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with “n” to words beginning with “o” is “octastich” which means a poem of 8 lines.
5. The Promoter--celebrating the birth on this day in 1931 of noted rock concert promoter German-American Wulf Wolodia Grajonca better known to the rock and roll industry as Bill Graham who after signing up Huey Lewis to perform at a benefit concert for the victims of the Oakland fire disaster was in a helicopter that crashed into a utility tower and died on October 23, 1991.
    On this day in:

b. 1975 Ella T. Grasso became the governor of Connecticut, the first woman to become a governor not succeeding her husband who was the prior governor.
c. 1982 AT&T agreed to divest itself of 22 subsidiaries.
d. 2002 President George W. Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act which if one looks at our urban schools has largely failed.

Reflections on poetry at work: “I used to tell my senior staff to get me poets as managers. They look at our most complex environments and reduce the complexity to something they can begin to understand.” Sidney Harman Canadian born American entrepreneur and philanthropist.
