August 6 History Hiroshima Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—August 6, 2014:  A very somber ceremony observed in Japan for the victims of the first atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima.  Hope you enjoy the holidays posted, along with the factoids and quote from M.G. Sriram with a smile on your face, a positive attitude and a cold mug of a root beer float.
           1. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony—honoring the dead and survivors of the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima by the Enola Gay on this day in 1945.
           2. National Root Beer Float  Day—celebrating that great combination of root beer and ice cream—outstanding on a summer day.
           3. Valley of Death Day---celebrating the birthday on this day in 1809 of one of England’s great 19th Century poets, Alfred Lord Tennyson, author of many classics including The Charge of The Light Brigade.
           4.  15 Is Nothing Special Day--celebrating the birthday on this day in 1928 of one of America’s great artists of Pop Art, Andy Warhol, noted for his Campbell’s Soup cans and the idea that anyone can have 15 minutes of fame but not much more.
On this day in
             a. 1965 President Lyndon Johnson signs into law the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
             b. 1991 Tim Berners-Lee released files describing his idea for the World Wide Web and www debuted as a publicly available service on the Internet.
             c. 2013 NASA’s Curiosity Martian Land Rover landed on the surface of Mars to begin exploring the Red Planet.
Instead of more Campbell’s Soup cans to attract fame, we have the viral equivalent: “Looking at the proliferation of personal web pages on the Net, it looks like very soon everyone on Earth will have 15 megabytes of fame.” M.G. Siam , noted software design engineer at Tektronix Bangalore
