August 24 History National Peach Pie Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—August 24, 2014Trust your weekend is ending on a great note and that you enjoy the holidays of some distinction along with the factoids and quote from Abbie Hoffman  with a smile on your face, a positive attitude and a large slice of peach pie in front of you before calling it quits for the day secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for a memorable event you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem tailored to the event and the recipient.
,          1. Nostalgia Night Uruguay—celebrating in of all places Uruguay music of the past; shades of KEarth 101.
           2. National Streak Day celebrating the birthday of Cal Ripken, Jr. on this day in 1960, a man who played in 2,632 consecutive baseball games.
           3. Archer Day—celebrating the birthday of a great actress, Anne Archer, on this day in 1947 tremendous talent with an awesome recipe for a cauliflower salad that one would kill for and one of the few icons of Hollywood this poet actually has met in person—a truly great lady!
           4. National Peach Pie Day –celebrating that classic summer desert especially when topped with fresh salmon berries (only if blessed to live in Alaska) or for the mere mortals ice cream.
On this day in
             a. 1814 the British Army invaded Washington D.C. and began to burn it to the ground.
             b. 1891 to the joy of Hollywood and millions of viewers, Thomas Edison patented the motion picture camera.
             c. 1967 led by Abbie Hoffman the Yippies disrupted trading on the New York Stock Exchange by tossing dollar bills from the balcony.
             d. 1991 in a seems like only yesterday moment Ukraine declared itself independent from the Soviet Union.
Abbie Hoffman and the Yippies may have been in their own minds visionaries but as a child of the 60’s as to this I hope he is wrong at least to the music if these idiot rappers ever get their act together “The 60’s are gone, dope will never be as cheap, sex never as free and the rock and roll never as great.” Abbie Hoffman
