July 27, 2021 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Bagpipe Appreciation Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not July 27, 2021

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues on a slowing down basis the new year with cases now over 195 million at  195,664,774  cases (194,794,226 yesterday); 14,052,623 of which are active, 181, 612,151 closed with 177,423,568 recoveries (97.69% and 97.69% yesterday, and 4,188,583 deaths (2.31% and 2.31% yesterday) to continue the slow trend of increased cases with increased recovery percentages and decreased death percentage with some plateaus, dips, and rises.
CV USA Cases: Total cases now over 35 million at 35,288,273 (35,257,596 yesterday)  with 5,112,761 active cases of which 8447 are serious or critical, (8323 yesterday and 8,599 on 3/25/2021) (now on a serious upswing due to Delta virus up to .017% of active cases and now a steady increase in the number of serious or critical cases to decrease the reduction from the 29,271 peak on 12/31/2020 to 20,824, 30,175,512 closed, with 627,044 deaths (2.08% and 2.08% yesterday) and with 29,548,468 recoveries (97.92% and 97.92% yesterday). Our death rate percentage continues to slowly improve and after many months is now .23% lower than the world’s death rate.

Standing: On a deaths per million population measure on a steady   but slow climb to 1883 the U.S. ranks behind Peru (5857) the new number 1 which has had a quantum leap in deaths previously unmatched which was a change in the classification to give Peru the a new method of reporting to have a fatality rate of 9.32% of total cases now; Hungary the new number 2 has had a huge continuing surge in deaths with the increase now slowing down and improving slightly to  3.87% of its closed cases have died (3116), aping Hungary in terms of increase in deaths Bulgaria (2640),   Brazil (2571) which has been hit with a rapid rise in deaths and cases and passed us and Italy, Columbia newly added to the list (2316);  Argentina (2281), Belgium (2167), (Italy (2120), Poland (1991), and the UK (1894) which had passed us despite leading world in testing and now has new deaths barely increasing),  and slightly better than Mexico (1830), Chile (1820), Romania (1794),  Spain (1737),  France (1707), Portugal (1703, Bolivia (1492),  Sweden (1438) that never closed its economy down like we did, and Switzerland (1250).
Tests: We have now conducted 525,983,886 (now at 1,579,190/M) compared to number 2 now France at 1,561,917 we are conducting more tests in number and on a per capital basis for all nations (other than those nations that contain small populations like Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Malta, Singapore and UAE) other than the U.K. which remains as king of the mountain with respect to tests at 3,534,981/M.
CV Open Gate: Lost in the pronouncements by Biden and his lackeys   that there is no crisis of illegals surging across the border is that fact that COVID-19 is alive and well and spreading in the Northern Triangle and Mexico which been passed by Argentina to move down to 11th  on my list of deaths from the pandemic  at 1830/M with a fatality rate of 10.09% of closed cases and the 3 countries in the Northern Triangle in terms of active cases and deaths per million are as follows even though the data may be suspect as underreported (regardless of number we need no more cases):
                     Guatemala:  Active Cases:  33,564 Deaths/M 554
                     Honduras:    Active Cases: 185,086 Deaths/M 760
                     El Salvador:  Active cases:     7,245 Deaths/M 395
US Vaccinations: As of 7/26/21 342.2 million doses at .591 million per day (8 months to go for 75% of population vaccinated) and in California 75,621 per day which means if the rate does not increase it will take us now some 5 months to have 75% of the population of California vaccinated which many believe is necessary to develop herd immunity (other than Flip Flop Fauci who may believe that 90% is required).  In California 44,724,529 total doses have been given (88.5% of doses received to exceed the U.S. average of 86.8%), but even with the pressure of a recall to be scheduled this fall which hopefully end Newsom’s term, California has finally has  moved  down from 19th to 20th of the 50 states in terms of the percentage of doses administered as a percentage of doses delivered to the states and at 52.4% of its population fully vaccinated compared to the U.S. average of 49.1% has moved down from 20th to 17th among the 50 states.  A long way to go still to get herd immunity in terms of getting vaccines received into arms and the percentage of the population fully vaccinated compared to other states which means a great reason to recall this inept and hypocritical governor.
Non  CV News: MSM must recognize that crime surge is one of the Achilles Heels in 2022 so even when one of the Blues is assaulted and robbed, Barbara Boxer, from them reporting the event only the sounds of silence; the CDC has just revised its mask wearing guidelines for fully vaccinated people, now recommending that masks be worn indoors in crowded conditions like public transportation, prisons, hospitals and homeless shelters (another flip flop that will not add to the credibility of Fauci or the CDC); Atlanta has defied Governor’s refusal to require masks in schools and will require that masks be worn by students, faculty and staff; Newsom must be sweating blood as support among voters likely to vote favor recall  47% to 51% opposing which is clearly in the margin of error and Larry Elder has moved to the top spot of candidates favored if the recall passes; Russia took the Gold Medal in team gymnastics and the U.S. had to settle for the Silver as their super star Simon Biles bowed out due to a “medical issue”; as states have been ending the additional unemployment compensation from the feds due to the number of jobs open and needing to be filled almost top the number of people looking for work and the extra benefits are a great disincentive to people returning to the workforce but a court in Maryland and one in Indiana has ruled in favor of unemployed who sued when the extra benefits in that state were stopped; the partisan House Committee to investigate the events at the Capitol on January 6 is holding its first hearing receiving testimony from four police officers on the scene (wonder if we will hear anything about the killing of one unarmed female demonstrator?); unlike Harris who viewed being at the actual border not miles away, Governor Noem visited the 50 National Guardsmen she sent there and watched the steady stream of illegals who she claimed were paying traffickers $5,000 a head; the DOJ has just ruled that state and private employers can required mandatory vaccinations even though their use was allowed under FDA emergency authorization (CA, NYC and the VA are mandating employees be vaccinated or submit to weekly CV tests so don not be surprised if vaccination will soon become a condition of employment or continued employment); CNN Brian Stelter’s ratings are still in the tank even the week Branson went into space (but no wonder as this woke pseudo “journalist” was raising questions given the pandemic and climate change whether it was ethical for the short sub-orbital flight to occur); as Reds are raising the issue of the inflationary impact of the massive federal COVID aid and Biden is bemoaning the Congress has not passed his physical infrastructure bill packed with a massive amount of social infrastructure leftist wish list items, the GAO informs us that $1 trillion of appropriated funds have not even been spent yet (easy come easy go in fed land!); in the age of “fake news” from the MSM, leave it to the political cartoonist to graphically portray what the Cack News Network is spreading over the airways:

Chicago Gun Violence: Hey Jackass.com is alive and well to collect data to show that through July 26, 2021, gun violence involving mostly persons of color shooting mostly persons of color in Chicago is alive and well with 2478 persons shot of whom 425 have died.

              1.  National Korean War Armistice Day—celebrated since 1994 to honor those who served and died in the Korean War which started on June 25,1950 with the unprovoked invasion of South Korea by North Korea and the signing of the Korean War Armistice Agreement on this day in 1953 after 158 meetings spread over two years and 17 days, the longest time and the most meetings in history to reach an armistice.
              2.  Bagpipe Appreciation Day—celebrating that unique musical instrument that keeps playing its eerie music  as long as the bag is full and has been around since Mesopotamian times and thoroughly enjoyed today by this Alaskanpoet who with a Scot for a mother and an Irish for a father and a Scot for a stepfather was doomed to enjoy the pipes. Please enjoy one of my favorites “Scotland the Brave"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBKBI7DOLHA                                                                             3. 1970 Number 1 Song USA—the number 1 song in 1970 on this day was “(They Long to Be) Close to You” by the Carpenters on a run of 4 weeks in that position to join 24 other songs that achieved number 1 status and join 13 other acts, who achieved their first number 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. Here is a video recording by The Carpenters of “(They Long to Be) Close to You”:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6inwzOooXRU Karen and Richard Carpenter were a soft rock duo of siblings who were active from 1969-1983 with a one year hiatus of Richard due to quaalude addiction. Sadly Karen suffered from anorexia and she ended the duo by dying from a heart attack from it on February 4, 1983.
              4.  Word of the Day—the word of the day is “scamander” which means to meander as opposed to a direct course to get from point A to point B.
              5.  Going Out in Style But Still Going Out--celebrating the birth on this day in 1981 of Dash Snow, a controversial photographer and artist whose work depicted scenes of sex, drug-taking, violence and art-world pretense with candor, documenting the decadent lifestyle of a group of young New York City artists and their social circle. He lived what he photographed, and the snow melted forever on July 13, 2009 in a $325 a night hotel room from a drug overdose at the age of 27.

              On this day in:

               c. 1990 the Americans With Disabilities Act was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush.

               d. 1995 the Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C.
               e.  1996 a pipe bomb planted at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta during the Olympics by Eric Rudolph exploded killing 1 and injuring 111 people. Rudolph was arrested, pled guilty to avoid the death sentence and is now rotting away in prison for life without possibility of parole.
Reflections on bagpipes: “When I hear the bagpipes, it makes the hairs on ,my neck stand on end. It always makes me weep.” Ashley Jensen, Emmy award nominated actress born in Scotland. If the pipes are playing “Amazing Grace” there will be a lot of people weeping with her, including the Alaskanpoet.
